Still think that the Little John is open. Drove past a bit ago, door was open. Bromilow closing is not good news, was usual pre match drink. Is the place across the road still open? If I remember, wasn't that closed for a while?
frank_spencer Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Barnstormers? God, that looks grim. I'll do a recky today and report back its right by site. Looked ok when I've peered through the Windows.

beer_swiller Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 The Greenwood and the Bromilow did they have a decent choice of ales? A few pubs in my neck of the woods have closed, re-opened and closed again, this is due to a lack of choice and real ales. One pub in Atherton is thriving because they got rid of the nitrokeg and re-opened in ownership of Allgates Brewery from Wiggin. They offer 7 hand pumped ales including guest beers from other breweries. The Pendle witch, also under ownership by a brewery ( Moorhouses)offer a great choice of real ales plus guest beers every week. Last week they had Summer Lightening. They also have a superb of Belgian brews including fruit beers on draught. The Bluebell near the Atherton Railway Station is a prime location, this recently has been boarded up. Again, this establishment closed , re-opened and closed again. I went in there one night and all they had was four pumps of nitrokeg and some other yellow water shite they call Fosters, needless to say I left. Smoking they say has a lot to do with the demise of the pubs, may well be, but some of the smoking rooms they have made are better than the pub itself. Take the Atherton Arms, they have a smoking shelter with heater, two Plasma TV`s and a bandit, better than the tap room. They have taken away their civil liberties as the pub has always been associated as a meeting place. As a none smoker myself ( used to do) I have no objection to anyone having a smoke as long as they don`t blow it near me.
hughmungus Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Been in the Greenwood a few times for various reasons, but I dont think smoking tobacco was its biggest problem. I went in last Bank Holiday and the toilets looked like someone had exploded a talcum powder bag in there. There where also 2 big nasty looking sted heads growling at every fucker they didn't know, especially an out of towner like me. Makes me laugh when local politicians get themselves associated with these places and then expect right minded folk to vote for them. Its a shame really and down to piss poor management, this place was ok back in 1997 when the ground moved as we used it as a pre match place, it also had the biggest bouncer on the door I have ever seen.

beer_swiller Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 If theyr`e selling twenty cans for fifteen quid you better ask yourself the question why? Tinned ale just makes me belch n fart and bloats me gut. I`d rather pay fifteen quid for few pints of real ale or some decent Belgian stuff.
