Anyone Live On Hag Fold?

I'm currently sat outside a house on hag fold, have been since 3 this morning, will be until about 9.30. Who fancies making bacon butties? Head for Burns Ave. which is a bit ironic!

There're 4 of us.

I could do, if I was passing but not got bacon in. There's a butty bar on Coal Pit Lane.

I went through the estate at 06:00 this morning, I didn't smell any burning

I was parked up at Burns Ave near Poets Corner

I went all the way along Spa Rd through Poets Corner, [i can get through the road block on my bike]my visor must have been steamed up because I didn't see a big red fire engine :o

Were you once refused a job as a firefighter? You really do seem to hold them in a low level of esteem. I'm not that bothered what you think of me as a person or my job. I am bothered, however, that you are just another wanker who speaks of my job as though you do actually have a knowledge of anything that goes on at a fire.

At this incident, a woman was critically burnt; 70% is the figure I've heard from the hospital. I know from my own experiences that this level of burns has a very high mortality rate.

Due to the nature of the fire, an investigation must take place. The investigation takes place during daylight and, as this isn't a crime scene (yet) we can't ask the police to provide a watching brief and prevent anyone entering the house and contaminating the evidence. In this day and age, you often expect some fucker to take advantage of an insecure house in order to make a bob or two!

Only when the investigation is complete can we turn all the remnants of fire over to ensure no still-smouldering embers could reignite the fire.

Now maybe you'd like to tell me what you do for a living. I'd like the opportunity to speak about your job as though I had some kind if knowledge of it.

Did anyone bring bacon butties ?

So you're actually posting from beyond the grave?

Did they bollocks.

I don't get that.

You don't need to be horrifically burned to get to know that the mortality rate of severe burns is high any more than you need to be a passenger in a plane to know that aeroplanes crashing are often fatal!

out of interest, how many firemen and units did it need to make sure the local scrotes didn't loot the place

  • Author

One fire engine, 4 firemen. Unfortunately there isn't an option to send one or two in a van as you'd be unable to crew the appliance that you'd leave in the station. Plus, if, during the waiting for the investigators, the place started smoking again you'd need some way of putting it out.

Edit = And after all, we're there and getting paid anyway. The only difference is that we're out in a fire engine instead of at the station.

It's a bit like baby sitting. You have a choice; pay someone a tenner to babysit or hope nothing will happen and leave your child alone while you go out.

I know that plane crashes are fatal I just don't have any experience of them.

If you were an air crash investigator, you'd have experience of air crashes. As I'm a fireman I have experience of burns.

On the other hand I suppose Micky could have been running in and out of burning building somewhere and risking his life as I am sure he's done plenty of times in the past......and I wouldn't be wanting to do that for just ?15 per hour believe me

Anyway, I know Micky and doubt he just "sat" on his arse for the full 6 hours, he'll have scratched it a few times as well :D

I wouldn't sit on Hag Fold at 3am for ?15 an hour.

Be interesting to see if Sir Francis wipes old people's arses for ?5.93 an hour, in which case they might have a point.

I've seen some shite posted on here, but I think you win the Leading Bell End spot.

Would you be so vocal on the merits of the job and its salary while Micky and his pals were dragging your kids/parents/grandparents out of a fucking big fire? Cunt.

And the 6 bacon buttes were all for MICKY D :pardon:

Who mentioned 6 bacon butties?

?15 an hour is slightly different than my actual rate of pay; it's nearer ?13 than 15 though.

I don't actually know what Sir Francis does for a living. If anyone would like to divulge I'd be interested in knowing.

My guess id sir francis is the 5 star fella at mac d`s on ?6 hour as drive through foreman/women sat on his arse.

so he`s spot on.....?15+ hour aint that bad.

this recreation room.....sounds like all the fire lads and lasses go do some yoga or fine art after their shift...personally I`d wanna go home to bed or the pub.

with a good pension =@

I take the piss out of Micky (in a lighthearted way most of the time) but I couldnt be a firebobby.

Trouble is, when its bad its fucking bad, when its normal I reckon its a fairly cushy number that has lots of benefits.

But, when they joined up they knew there would be the bad bits so why dramatise it as super heroic. Pardon the pun but they are doing their jobs. Like I said, not for a gold pig would I do it but I doubt they'd want to do what I've had to do this week. Its not like they were employed as washer uppers and then someone said 'oi put that fire out and pull out that kid'

Horrible, but something to be expected when they join up.

I was part of an underground fire fighting team at Bickershaw Colliery, it was only a bit part between your shifts every blue moon in case something serious happened. I can recall doing a stint on the surface running the hoses out and a bloke was turning on the water, one lad was rushing like mad to get a grip of the brass nozzle before the water reached it at high pressure, he failed and the nozzle kicked and took his eye out. After that escapade, all nozzles got made out of plastic.

with a good pension =@

Oh this old chestnut again?

When I joined 26 ish years ago the wages were poor by comparison with other jobs. I joined with lads who took pay cuts when they left previous employment to join the fire service.

The low pay was offset by a decent pension. Who wouldn't want a job with a good pension scheme at the end of it all?

Now I'm close to the finish post, and after paying about 11% of my wages for the pension, the Govt. are threatening that I may or may not get a pension commensurate with what I've already invested. They haven't decided yet what they're going to do and when they're going to do it.

Tell me again what a good pension scheme is. I thought it was one where you could pretty much plan out your future at the end of your working life.

That I am unable to do so, having planned to pay off a portion of my mortgage with the lump sum, is not helping me to plan anything.

It isn't sympathy I want from you or anyone else but a bit of transparency from the Ministers in charge of fire Service matters wouldn't go amiss.
