Anyone Live On Hag Fold?

I'm currently sat outside a house on hag fold, have been since 3 this morning, will be until about 9.30. Who fancies making bacon butties? Head for Burns Ave. which is a bit ironic!

There're 4 of us.

Tell me again what a good pension scheme is. I thought it was one where you could pretty much plan out your future at the end of your working life.

That I am unable to do so, having planned to pay off a portion of my mortgage with the lump sum, is not helping me to plan anything.

You can't plan anything, as discussed in many places, a pension's value is irrelevant until you want to cash it in. Everyone else approaching pension age is currently fucked, I don't see why anyone should be different. Course the unions don't like it but that's the cold hard facts. At this point some thick fucker usually brings up the bankers that caused this situation and the debate is over.

I'd hoped to have my feet up at 60 after 35+ years, that's not looking too rosy either.

Surely a strike would solve the problem? :D

Now I'm close to the finish post, and after paying about 11% of my wages for the pension, the Govt. are threatening that I may or may not get a pension commensurate with what I've already invested. They haven't decided yet what they're going to do and when they're going to do it.

They can't take away what you have already earned to date, it's the law. They could however change what you get going forwards

It's the bit about when I can retire that is my little beef. Ireally don't think a 60 year old fireman should be climbing ladders and stuff. It's a young lads game.

I have never understood pensions, lads I used to work with could calculate them to the penny how much they would get when they retired, I have a 10 year pension I paid into when I was a window cleaner, a 20 year pension from the prison service which is frozen until I'm 60, I fuckin hope there's summat to draw in 7 years time :good:

I'm sure Hazzy and others will be happy to help. Thing is, with retail prices at 5% then your pension could be decreasing in actual value. However, so is everyone else's so it's relative, isn't it?

Come down to the station any time you want. If you find a snooker table let me know where some fucker hid it about 5 or 6 years ago.

It's on the fire engine

That's why you've never found it ;)

Oh this old chestnut again?

When I joined 26 ish years ago the wages were poor by comparison with other jobs. I joined with lads who took pay cuts when they left previous employment to join the fire service.

The low pay was offset by a decent pension. Who wouldn't want a job with a good pension scheme at the end of it all?

It isn't sympathy I want from you or anyone else but a bit of transparency from the Ministers in charge of fire Service matters wouldn't go amiss.

How much have paid in?

How much will get out?

At this point some thick fucker usually brings up the bankers that caused this situation and the debate is over.

"Oh thank God - the bankers have arrived"

"Oh thank God - the fire brigade are here"

I wonder which phrase has been uttered most often in the UK during the last calendar year?

Don't know Ian Westhead but know John Buczak very well. Dunc, I presume is Dunc Hopkins. Again, I know him very well.

Were you once refused a job as a firefighter? You really do seem to hold them in a low level of esteem. I'm not that bothered what you think of me as a person or my job. I am bothered, however, that you are just another wanker who speaks of my job as though you do actually have a knowledge of anything that goes on at a fire.

At this incident, a woman was critically burnt; 70% is the figure I've heard from the hospital. I know from my own experiences that this level of burns has a very high mortality rate.

Due to the nature of the fire, an investigation must take place. The investigation takes place during daylight and, as this isn't a crime scene (yet) we can't ask the police to provide a watching brief and prevent anyone entering the house and contaminating the evidence. In this day and age, you often expect some fucker to take advantage of an insecure house in order to make a bob or two!

Only when the investigation is complete can we turn all the remnants of fire over to ensure no still-smouldering embers could reignite the fire.

Now maybe you'd like to tell me what you do for a living. I'd like the opportunity to speak about your job as though I had some kind if knowledge of it.

I was taking the mickey!

Cant believe you took my post so seriously.

Sorry for any offence.

I have been John's neighbour for about 22 years, I chat with him every day, he's helping me to install my wood burner in a acouple of weeks, absolutely great bloke, Dunc Hopkins, I always forget his last name, I was drinking with him a couple of weeks ago, another top bloke

Folk can take the piss all they want. I'm big enough to dish it out and big enough to take it. Your post, however, didn't look much like a pisstake until you realised nobody was jumping on the bandwagon with you.
