Sweep
It's a powerful word that is a bit taboo Not as taboo as it used to be, it gets mentioned on TV now and that wouldn't have happened 10 years ago. I think it's a great word, when used in the right context. I don't use it just for the sake of it though

My Mum would wash my mouth out with soap and water - as she once actually did (and for a word far less offensive).

I'm 42 for goodness sake. & I never did it as a child, well, only at football with my dad who told me not let my mother hear. She's got a bit of a potty mouth, but with a plum too so it sounds ok. My stepfather is even worse but he's uber posh so it sounds even funnier.
Site Supporter MickyD Posted October 27, 2011 Site Supporter Share Posted October 27, 2011 I honestly don't think my mum would notice. The most vulgar word I've ever heard her utter was bugger and that was as in "You silly bugger!" rather than "Them gay who live over t' road were buggering each other last night!" Fair do's, there are just certain words I'd never use in front of my mum, regardless of my age. Cunt is one of them.

Smiley
Its short for "couldn't". Just like "fert". "I am going fert bus" is short for "I am going to catch the bus"
Members DazBob
"fert" is an odd one. There's not one specific word is replaces. "I didn't know what fert do". Is that easier than saying, "I didn't know what to do." ?
Site Supporter MickyD Posted October 27, 2011 Site Supporter Share Posted October 27, 2011 What fert do? is short fot "What for to do? Which must have been correct English in the days of yore.
