heard goughy on talkport earlier today mention his kids go to boarding school.

 

now,i understand people have hectic lives and all,but i really dont get the idea of having children and then sending them away.

 

whats the point in having kids?

Boarding schools can also be a good opportunity for kids to undertake. They will learn about independence that help them in the future. But I am against parents that sends their kids when they are still young. Young kids should be nurtured by parents in order to build their self-esteem. They when they older, sending them to a boarding school will be fine.

There are some boarding schools that take kids in from 3 years old.

 

IMO if the parents can't wait to get rid of them, they shouldn't fucking have them in the first place.

You could say that about parents who haven't a clue where their little darlings are of an evening though.

Just because some Parents want their kids to have the best possible starts in life, it isn't a bad thing.

 

Family our street have sent their dowter to some school in Worsley but because she's thicker than 4 day old lobby it wont make a blind bit of difference.

 

She's numb as a pisstone, born numb, lovely girl, but just fucking numb.

 

Complete waste of money.

I went to a Private School, I'm standing on my own two feet as I'm from a working class background. I got my first part time job at 14 and started paying "keep" at 16, I've worked constantly since then funding my way through College and Uni.

 

Just because some Parents want their kids to have the best possible starts in life, it isn't a bad thing.

The better the school you go to the better chance you have of making something of yourself in future.

 

If you can afford that for your kids then why not do it?

The most successful people I know all went to the local comp though.

But I still don't see what's wrong, if you can afford it, of giving them a better level of education.

 

It's a bit like kids going to Cannon Slade IMO. People moan that parents only go to church and drag their kids along with them in order to get into the school. That's absolutely fine with me as it shows that any child who is there has parents who actually give a damn about them.

 

If their parents are willing to sacrifice one day out of every seven just to ensure their kids go to a decent school then I'd be a lot happier sending my child to that school where he/she is surrounded by kids who've been brought up properly than one where he/she is surrounded by kids who've been dragged up.

Nah, the numb ones get just as big an uplift out of a better school as anyone else. I've met some genuine cretins from reasonable universities based on a decent schooling making their best effort to polish a turd.

I went to Eton ... for an afternoon. Needed a track race very early season and Eton only does athletics in March. In the summer they are either 'wet bobs' rowing or 'dry bobs' playing cricket.

 

My mate and I arrived early. We were offered lunch, but explained that we didn't eat for 4 hours before competing so the master i/c said "Morpeth, take these young men to your room." It transpired that young Morpeth was Viscount Morpeth and is now Earl of Carlisle.

 

We made up for it with the tea, where we ate solidly from the everlasting buffet for 2 hours, and were the last to leave.

 

Eton produces one good athlete about every 5 years and there is a current member of the GB team who is an OE. It is not often mentioned in the media. (But if his dad croaks he will be a 'Sir' as he heir to the baronetcy).

 

Like me, my son went to Eton ... but he was on a pre-season football tour (Lancing, Charterhouse, Bradfield and Eton on successive days), and stayed overnight.

I wasn't aware that the title 'Sir' was a hereditory title. That's more your Dukes, Marquesses, Earls, Viscounts, Barons, Baronets, etc.

 

Sir is a title given by the queen and dies with the person upon whom it is bestowed.

You are talking about knights.

Baronets are also Sirs. While these are appointed by the Sovereign they are passed on like those other titles mentioned. That's why Mark Thatcher is a Sir...

These days, none at all really.

The term public, iirc refers to the old schools, which were once charitable public schools e.g. Eton.

Private school is the term for the newer schools you pay for your little darling to go to. Usually the independant ones.

I may be wrong though, it's been known.

Probably head down the library and look it up. Thing is, it's caused a lull in activity at local libraries and then folk complain when the council threaten to close them.

 

There's wasn't too much call for coopers and wheelrights in the brewing industry after about 1950s. Did the breweries keep them on? Did they balls!

Thing is, the library is probably more reliable than some of the bollocks on find when you google. But hey, if people want to use it as fact, fair enough.

One of the reasons that a lot of folk from the military (the ORs not just the Ruperts) send their kids to boarding school is because it saves the kids having to change schools every 2 or 3 years, saying goodbye to pals, having to make new friends etc.
