superjohnmcginlay Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 classy name Ashley has picked to call St James Park http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/EXCLUSIVE-Newcastle-s-St-James-Park-stadium-renamed-the-Sports-Direct-Arena-as-Mike-Ashley-ends-120-years-of-history-article828848.html
frank_spencer Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Renaming old grounds especially one like St James Park just isn't right. If you want to sell naming rights build a new one or go down the Denver Broncos route and keep the original name in there.
no balls Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 To be fair most of the people in the stadium shop there.
mickbrown Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Hang on, we forgetting the bloody silly name of the place we suffer at every other week?
HomerJay Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 did anyone hear micky quinn giving brazil a good bollocking on talksport. whats got up his nose?
frank_spencer Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Hang on, we forgetting the bloody silly name of the place we suffer at every other week? but there was no history attached to the Reebok when it was named it has never been called anything else.

passmosster Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 but there was no history attached to the Reebok when it was named it has never been called anything else. Though Reebok the name has history as it was founded in Bolton in the 19th century. I think the company was Fosters or something like that.

If you go on their website you'd think we've never been in Bolton. Americans, re-writing history, again.
HomerJay Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 woooah Quinn on with Brazil there's no Cuntani? quinn was on the blower, giving them both an ear full
Pablo Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Who cares what its Officiall called, the fans will still call it what it is, the streets will stay the same, the Train Ststaion will still be St. James Park.
Walkden26 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I love Mike Ashley. I think he purposely tries to wind them up
Guest Biff Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 What about Leicester's ground. It hasn't been up five minutes but it is no longer The Walkers Stadium.
no balls Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Huddersfield's ground has had more names than Elizabeth Taylor.
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) Hasn't it been called "The Sports Direct Arena at St. James' Park" for a couple of seasons anyways? I'm sure I heard about this before, maybe even when Big Sam was there... Edited November 10, 2011 by SnoopJohnnyJohn
glennboltw Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 man united have also decided to change the stadium name to the paxo stadium due to the stuffing from man city the other week.
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 yup Must be a slow news day for the Mirror then
Guest Frandsen08 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I hope he calls it the mike ashley stadium
Sweep Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I don't see what the fans are getting so bent out of shape for, it really doesn't matter what the ground is called does it? - everybody will still refer to it as St James' Park They claim to be a massive club and expect to be challenging for honours, this won't happen unless they start spending money on signings (albeit they are doing very well thus far this season without any new signings) - the extra ?8M-?10M per season that Ashley reckons sponsorship will generate might just help them achieve the success they want. They don't like to admit it, but Ashley has probbaly over the last few years saved them from going bust and he seems to be turning things around The bunch of inbred deluded wankers
Arrested development Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Newcastle have spent loads this summer. Cabaye 4m Obertan 5m Ba - 4m Marveaux undisc Abeid - undisc Most of this was obviously generated from the Carroll sale. They have bought well. Sell anyone if you recieve an inflated offer, replace with players from unfashionable leagues, who cosy less. Cabaye at 4m might be the best bit of business all season.
Sweep Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 i thought ba was free? I thought he was as well, didn't he have a release clause that allowed hom to go for nothing if West Ham got relegated?
