I went to Whitecroft high in the 70's. Had a few rucks with St. Cuthberts around Doffcocker lodge :D

Wasn't St. Cuthberts the worst uniform in Bolton, or am I getting it confused with another Catholic School?

Used to have estate fights rather than schools. Harwood/Bradshaw, for some reason, used to fight hall i'th Wood over "ownership" of the bridge within Canon Slade grounds.

Did you go to Canon Slade?

Did I bollocks. Turton High school. I'd guess a lot longer ago than you were at school.

Aye, i only left ten years ago. I was down the round at Canon didnt get into Turton, we used to batter them at footy tho but and the fights were poxy bale outs most the time.

So you don't know about the historic battle between the two school cocks in the amphitheatre down the back overlooking Yates' farm then?

We'd only been there around 15-18 months and the scruffy little irks had been taking the piss out of uniforms etc. since day 1. All came to a head when the two cocks sorted it in front of around 50% of each school. 3 punches and it was all over. They pretty much avoided us after that. They knew we had em for brains but thought they ruled in the brawn stakes until that day.

Can you imagine this shit happening now? Sky news helicopters; parliamentary enquiries; heads rolling at the education department?

Aye, me too. Standards at the grammar school certainly dropped when we merged with them next door. Thank God we only had to endure them for our 5th year!

I went to St Cuthberts - left aged 16 in 1976. We did have many a ruck with Whitecroft boys - we went down your way one sunny afternoon with a gang of us ready for a fight - got to yours just as school finished - all hell broke loose! I ended up trading fisticuffs with one of your boys in a neighbour's garden after we fought our way through their hedge....them wer't days!!!

I think your lot had the edge on us though - after getting our arses kicked we didn't go back for more.

PS The uniform was bloody awful - a nasty shade of purple.

The Tonge Moor CP and Moorgate rivalry.

None of you set Moorgate on fire did you?

Depends, which year are you on about?

i do remember a bit about that, what year roughly was that. The two cocks fighting was a yearly event, but all came together to fight St Annes, as we had the higher ground and could march down hill,it usually didn't last long

Breightmet and St Annes. The latter not too much of a problem but it took us a while to subdue the other lot.

Well after I'd gone, they merged Breightmet with us to form Withins.

So you went to the hardest primary school in Bolton.

You went to the hardest secondary school in Bolton.

And you followed Bolton Wanderers when they had the hardest mob in England.

oh, and no doubt you went around with the hardest mods.

Smithills High school in the 70's had a few "do's" with Smithills Moor Grammar and Smithills Grammar......no contest really. Oh and the odd set to with Thornleigh.

Smithills High school at the time was mainly a mixture of J/Fold,Oldhams estate, and Halliwell, so we had our share of not reets.

Happy days.

Things have changed a tad over the years.
