Fairly certain no one is arsed, but we're still buzzing so I'm telling you all anyway.  We got incredibly lucky, thankfully! Weather was spot on and it properly set the tone for a perfect day, co

It's pissing down for the second time this afternoon.

Hopefully not reflective of the post match mood.

That said, I'm absolutely delighted that it's raining.

Proper summer rain.

Petrichor in the air

I’ve just spent the week at a conference which was predominantly heat pump focussed.

As with electric cars, the direction of travel is fixed so whilst bills will fluctuate - sometimes they’ll be higher sometimes lower - the move towards renewable energy isn’t going to change. Of course, reform are promising to dig us back to the Stone Age but they’ll be a bump in the road if you’re looking long term, as you must with this type of wholesale change of approach to the way we live.

I’m looking at doing some works to the house, substantial enough to be thinking of the best option to keep the house cool in years to come when it’s hotter than the sun, plus also need a new boiler.

Had assumed I’d need to get some air con sorted and was also looking at a megaflo/unvented cylinder. Will heat pumps be a better option?

It needs to fuckin rain right now. I'm boiling alive.

Never moaning again about English heat. Just spent the last 4 days in Toulouse where it was utterly brutal. “Feels like” was still 39 degrees at 10pm on Friday night.

I bet it was worse in 76.

Also

Heat pumps aren’t perfect for everyone.

I’ve said this a thousand times but it bears repeating - Britain can exist with a balance of renewables and fossil based energy. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

But in 30 years from now it’s likely that over 50% of British housing stock will have no gas at all

We have a very good gas distribution system with adequate heating boilers installed... what can't we simply adapt the system substituting an alternative green hydrogen gas mixture?

Has anyone on here actually denied there is a problem? When you say we changed our habits, that’s true. The problem is that some countries haven’t. In fact they have increased their usage of fossil fuels and you know who I’m talking about. We went through this with the Tony Blair comments. It doesn’t matter one iota what WE do. If we failed to exist as a nation, it wouldn’t change a thing.

That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t do anything. Again we are doing too much too fast.

Be interested to know your thoughts on this. Can’t find the Labour report but I’ll look later.

I've been looking into ASHPs quite a bit over the past few weeks.

We are about to buy a house on the (cold in winter) coast in North Yorkshire with an ASHP but the installation all looks too "mickey mouse" to me.

The family now selling their late father's property cannot produce any design, conformity or warranty documents... if it was a "Gas Safe" installed heating system I would have much more confidence... I am worried that there is another Government grant fueled bubble being pumped up here, not dissimilar to the external wall insulation scams that are now blowing up in everyone's faces.

I'm probably going to pull out of the purchase if I don't receive proper assurances and warranties... so their late Dad could have devalued their inheritance by installing a poorly designed (if designed at all) heat pump system
