Fairly certain no one is arsed, but we're still buzzing so I'm telling you all anyway.  We got incredibly lucky, thankfully! Weather was spot on and it properly set the tone for a perfect day, co

Folks may have seen this yesterday. A prediction from 2014 of the effect of climate change in France by 2050.

We’re already there now.

Fossil fuel companies, the politicians they bribe and Joe Public who won’t change their own behaviours should hang their heads in shame. You’re leaving a complete mess for your kids and grandkids.

neighbour recorded mid 40s in the shade yesterday. Our thermometer said about 49, but it's up against a wall in direct sunlight. Our lass is still convinced our back garden's set a new record for France though.

Nice and cool early 30s today, so carefully followed medical advice by not drinking water, cycling up a big fuck off hill with 14% ramps in order to have a couple of 7% beers at the village at the top.

So long as they only use green energy, they're fine.

Wondering how many actually have signed up for a green tariff?

Anyway, there are plenty that don't deny the climate is getting warmer, they just refuse to say it's man made and say its just a cycle.

Bit of a bollocks argument, as is that spouted by full on deniers, but you'll never convince everyone.

I don't agree with this Spider, in 1976 I was an apprentice engineer and was at Leigh College full time for 1 year (EITB) we had an extended dinner break and went swimming in Leigh canal to cool off, at weekend we converged on the Blue Lagoon to swim, we did what we did to cool off and enjoy ourselves, the beer tasted better after too, there was certainly no shutting of schools and all the malarkey that's going on now because we'll get a few hot days, it's called summer, yes, in my world in 1976 we 'got on with it'

The last couple of days have been hotter than it was on any day in 1976.

At least the good people of Sunderland can sleep easy now they’ve been told “the climate emergency is false”. Good job they voted in a Reform council, who must also be climate change experts, given the importance of these decisions.

You get what you vote for. Muppets.

Sunderland Council rescinds climate emergency declaration

Reform councillor Bill Blackett says polar bears are not extinct and the Maldives has not sunk.

Deniers are stupid.

At the same time, spending council money on fashionable statements and policies are pointless unless they actually achieve something.

Purely virtue signalling just makes opposition grow.

There are easy wins available, that may actually save money too in the long run, but authorities have mixed approaches to actually doing them.

Possibly so, I remember it being very hot. In those days air con,, multi function fans cooling towels etc weren't as easy to get as they are now, no Amazon in '76

Looks like Gonzo might be getting wet fairly soon!

Big storm between scousers and mancs, with some hits further north, including Lytham.

The hottest day in 1976 was 35.9 deg. (3rd July) Today has been the hottest day in June / year 36.9 deg. In 1976, the heatwave lasted 3 weeks (days over 30 deg) This has lasted 3 days.

After the heatwave, temperatures cooled to between 25 to 28 deg for around another 4-5 weeks (from memory) This was combined with a drought that had gone on all year.

I’m not a climate denier.

Thanks for the compliment, feeling pretty old at the moment so the wise bit has gone down well 😀

The old fashioned way was to top dress with granite dust to reflect the heat as the black bitumen starts to soften (at around 50C). The new stuff rases this failure temp to 80C but it is more expensive and how often do we resurface our roads? Then you can get problems with surface water and flooding as the new stuff is harder.

Bit of a tightrope really

Where I live they’ve just redone a load of roads with that chip and seal shite. Fucking awful for riding a bike on.

Amazing when full facts are reported.

Still, plenty want to be selective when making a point, which in turn just makes more folk suspicious of claims/science etc.

Longer terms trends are a far better indicator.

It is nevertheless bloody hot, and feels worse today than any this week.

This downpour is very welcome it was humid as fuck. Love a bit of thunder and lightning

yes but no AIR CON EVERYWERE then

and your dads car had plastic seats your legs stuck too

Temperature is one thing, humidity is another

We've had 38C here in recent years but I can't remember it ever feeling as warm as this

Spot on.

During that storm a little while back, although we missed out on the good stuff, we had a period of a few minutes where the wind really picked up, and changed direction readily.

The cooling effect was ace, but it disappeared as quickly as it came.

I've watched loads of videos of tornadoes in the US, and these sudden wind changes are typical of thunder storms.

I guess we tend not to have such severe systems over here that brew into something much worse.

It's been awful today though- would have loved some rain.

Absolutely hammering down now. Very good.

Apart from shops and some offices, Air Con definitely isn't "EVERYWERE".

Anyway, you old cunts can argue otherwise all you want and pretend you're war heroes, but it's still hotter today than it was then.

I follow a couple of people on Facebook from America who are over here right now and they can't cope with the heat. They get mid to high 40's in summer but they get respite in their AC homes.

While over here l, they don't feel the need to dip their toes in the the local canal or drown in a reservoir like in the good old days 50 fucking years ago.

Honest to God it's insane how much reverence we give to some older folk who do nothing but talk their younger generations down. Those younger generations will never receive such riches, on such a scale anyway.

Had the somewhat odd occurrence the other night of shed loads of lightning, no thunder or no rain

Love a good lightning storm but it needs thunder and rain

I think he may be a similar age to you. He did say Dad’s. I may be wrong.

1976 has got a few on here worked up.😅

What's this downpour everyone's going on about?

I’d love a bit of rain right now… 🥵
