The hottest day in 1976 was 35.9 deg. (3rd July) Today has been the hottest day in June / year 36.9 deg. In 1976, the heatwave lasted 3 weeks (days over 30 deg) This has lasted 3 days.

After the heatwave, temperatures cooled to between 25 to 28 deg for around another 4-5 weeks (from memory) This was combined with a drought that had gone on all year.

I’m not a climate denier.

I was working for Faircloughs (Adlington) in 1976 on the Cardiff North Bypass (now the M4).... we couldn't pour concrete on the bridge decks because of the heat... but I did get to see the Quo at the Castle šŸ˜„

I think he may be a similar age to you. He did say Dad’s. I may be wrong.

1976 has got a few on here worked up.šŸ˜…

You are wrong.

Us ā€˜old cunts’ have many memories of that great summer. Yes great, it was the best summer ever. These days, (these days) 3 days of 30+ deg and the world is going to expire! Don’t tell the Chinese.

I’m not a climate denier.

I actually used to live in Adlington then and we, at Hick Hargreaves, did some sub contract machining for Faircloughs.

Well he is much younger than me. Where on the scale of ā€˜old cunts’ does he belong?

Old enough to have been alive and remember the seats in his dad's car in 1976 apparently.

Best memory of Adington in the summer? Upending the office junior from the typing pool in the lunch break near the canal šŸ˜€

He could have been a toddler. So an ā€˜old cunt’ is anyone over, what 52?

Are you one of those who came on here after the flag was seen in Plovdiv?

Bad maths.

White Bear Marina. šŸ‘ I still go to Adlington a lot. The Bridge Pub across the road is a good place to watch Bolton on away days as well as the Elephant and Castle. Top end. (Big Rangers pub as well)

No. Not all old people are "old cunts". No idea what you're talking about regarding the Plovdiv flag.

It’s when odd people suddenly appeared on here after the Wanderersways.com. flag was spread across social media after its display in Plovdiv (Bourgas) It resulted in lots of odd people suddenly joining the forum.

Not everyone was odd.

Am I reading this thread all wrong?

Folk like me remember 1976 as hot. And it went on for a long time. And it was quite a bad drought

This current heatwave is hotter. And a lot more humid. But not as long. So far

Am I missing something? Maybe I’m ā€œtoo oldā€?

Or is this the new politics thread where folk argue about fuck all that’s actually important?

Anyway you didn’t just stick to the seats of your Dad’s car they burned your legs and left a fucking red mark 😁

You're too old pal. Get back to your bag of Werthers and your Queen Elizabeth II memorial crockery.

Absolutely hammering down now. Very good.

Apart from shops and some offices, Air Con definitely isn't "EVERYWERE".

Anyway, you old cunts can argue otherwise all you want and pretend you're war heroes, but it's still hotter today than it was then.

More blitz spirit from the boomers who never lived through it

No, 76 was a great summer for all involved.

That has about as much relevance to June in 26 as the cold winter of 82.

Folk who should know better just can't help themselves and look and sound a bit silly.

You can stick your Queen Elizabeth crockery right up your arse along with your modern day Werthers. Nothing later than George VI here and barley sugars by the bagful

Fucking weird innit. Thankfully they'll all be gone soon.

The White Bear Yard was where we used to dump all the crap at the end of the jobs, pre marina days.

Used to have a couple of pints in the Bridge every dinner time when working in head office, glad to hear its still going.

Not in the slightest.

Still going and thankfully a lot better these days, went a bit wayward for a few years but now seems to be back on track.

Ok. So really you mean die.

I’ve always found that people who have one prejudice, usually have more. So apart from your obvious ageist prejudice, what are your others?

I’m 56 , I still have imprints of the plastic seats in my dad’s Hilman avenger on the back of my kegs and remember the stink of the vynil roof and carpets .

Whits post made me smile as it’s true .

Must admit, always thought you were of a similar age, no idea why like .

I have no prejudice against old folks. Just cunts.
