Apart from the football pitches on Spa Rd I have never been on Queens Park. Seeing as I lived in Bolton for over 20 years and even worked on the corner of Chorley New and Old Rd for a couple of years I dont know how I missed it. I have just been looking at it on Google Earth and although I am not going to put it on the bucket list I am suprised at how big it is.

 

Just curious if anybody else has missed out on Boltons great landmarks.

You're not missing much. On nice days it fills up with folk you'd probably rather avoid.

You don't know what you're missing, Queenpark's fabulous ..Loved it as a child and still do .. To my shame i have never been in the famous Ye Old Man & Scythe , something i aim to correct in the near future .

Luckily I live near enough to/actually come ot think of it, in the countryside to not have to go to parks.

I have visions of them full of ale cans holding ale cans and crackheads holding crack pipes. I'd be happy to be proved wrong though.

I agree ,it used to be based at Queens Park at one time ..I'm not sure why it was moved to Moss Bank ?

queens park used to have one shite football pitch and one good one.

A few years back me and the ex decided to go for a Sunday afternoon amble as we lived 5 mins walk from Queens Park. She'd never been to see the butterflies there and I'd not been a kid so off we went...

 

... and it had disappeared, vanished as if it had never been there.

 

Had many a happy afternoon on Queens Park as a nipper, but as NB asks, is there ANYTHING there apart from alcoholics these days?

Freddie Mercury sang for the first time live at Queens Park with a band called Ibex shortly before Queen was formed.

What to do at Queens Park. Its a park, you just hang out there. Read or whatever when the weather permits

 

The childrens play area has improved massively, and when the weather is nice, its actually full of respectable folk and families.

 

Its a town asset and people should use it more rather than slag it off

There's a new cafe and activity centre there too.

A shite load of lottery money has already been spent on it, doing up the lakes, play area and paths.

and there's more on the way including reinstating the chorley new road entrance and revamping the area at the top of the hill where the butterfly house was.

Sorry my view doesn't reflect that of your own. I base my opinion on past experience not recent. It may well have changed for the better but I'm guessing that they haven't started to re-employ park-keepers to keep the unwashed away so would be interested to know what's been done towards achieving that goal.

They have except he's called the park ranger oh yes and there's aparently a couple of pcso's based out of the lodge on park road.

In my experience park rangers are mainly too pre-occupied in stopping bears from stealing pic er nick baskets to bother with the local low life.

Yep I was there along with many other bolton fans as it was the first home match of the season & the powers that be had decided to change our clubs colours

 

to all white with RED trim ..................so we all had brand new scarfs with red lines on them ,of course we got relegated that season , so beware the bright c""t with new

 

ideas its sure to end in tears.

 

There was a photo taken of some fans in the park & as I recall................. they used to be a handy squad.
