Holding Midfielder Any Suggestions

Its obvious we need a holding midfielder can't see anyone in the current squad who could do the job, is there anyone who realistically would sign for us out there?

I think it will now come as a loan from chelsea- the owed player and all that, even if its a 6 month loan job, could work well for all parties, we get a quality player to come in while holden gets fit and a few games under his beltand hopefully back to form we know he can show ,chelsea get to have a good look at their lad and the player gets some

good experience to show his club he should be in there thoughts for the 2nd half of the season.

Keith Andrews will do a decent job IMO. Need someone with discipline beside him though.

If he bloody mindedly sticks with 4-4-2 we want a pair of box to box types dont we??

Making an assumption like

But then he's obviously in the Market for a holding player

God knows

I don't think coyle had any intention of playing such a player.

If pre season is anything to go by, 2 box to box types and one behind the front man, helping out when required.

i'll throw a name into the ring

southend's Bilel Moshni.................played on trial for west ham last week, but fat sam has higher targets. highly rated central holding midfielder/defender

I think we are setting our sights slightly higher than that

Or are we ????????

Eh?

Hes a forward who can play wide midfielder and at a push cover in defence.

Holding midfield is just about the only position he cant play

he's very versatile according to which site we read.

preferred position is central defender but has been used up front and on the wing. big fat sam put him in central midfield.

one thing for sure though is he's a proper tantrum thrower. sent off many times.........plus after a cup tie at oldham,he fell out with his team mates and went home on his own on the train. did the same after a game at morecambe.......................just what we need for team spirit

One name I will throw in from our squad and never thought I would suggest is Alonso, his performance at Crewe in the defence was disciplined and calm and I think he could sit in the holding role nicely, obviously I would give him a couple of run outs behind closed doors but it's worth a shot if we don't get any one in before the season starts.

Sam Ricketts is more than capable of playing there

Good call, in a Campo stylee, might just work.

Not sure about alonso mounts, it was like watching 2 different lads in the blackburn away and fulham home games , would love the lad to come good this season though.

As an aside to this, when holden is fit , who would be your midfield 3 playing in a 451 , would andrews, holden and mark davies playing behind sordell work ?

442 won't get us up . With the midfielders we have not to go 451,would be crazy .

4 2 3 1 andrews holding. vela the box to boxer and mavies behind the frontman. chung and petrov wide

andrews was brought in to add goals

he will not be a fcuking defensive midfielder

nor will we play 451

I look at our squad and I think it suits a 3-5-2 especially as I want to see us play 2 up top, I would go with RIcketts,Ream,Knight or Mills as the back 3, Chung yong and Petrov wide, midfield 3 of Holden,Mark Davies, Andrews, the top 2 definite starter is Ngog and the other place is up for grabs I would start with Kevin Davies because we need a strong physical presence as I feel we're light weight and might get bullied, its a very attack minded team and at various times we might need to use 2 wide players who are more defensive minded but we have the likes of Riley,Mears,Ricketts, and Alonso who could play in a more defensive 5-3-2 formation.

The more players come in, the more options OC has. He'll still persevere with the team that got us relegated though, keeping the new signings on the bench instead of getting them in.

He played there at city and was average, but that was City, but it leaves us having to play Knight and that's a worry.

I answered the question to the thread and not if he comes out of covering every other players back at centre back!

We only need 2 reams

I've mentioned Alonso myself to the old man but I reckon he needs a bit more experience yet before moving into the middle - can certainly see it happening down the line though

No chance in my opinion

His two best attributes are his left peg and his abilty to get up and down the flank for 90 minutes.

I'll do it, better than what Coyles bought
