Karma Is Brilliant

A couple of weeks back I posted on here I had to pay a ex's phone bill, £250.97p, because it was in my name.

Well, I've just been through Bolton Buy, Sell & Swap and a girl I was seeing a few years back is on there asking about decent decorators to do her house. She was a bit short so I lent her the money to pay a bill, £300, and we lost contact after I copped for someone else. I put a message on underneath saying: "Great, I've got a better idea, why don't you paint it yourself and with the money you save on decorators you can pay me back the £300 I lent you". Now I've never done standing orders, but is it safe to give her my account number and sort code so she will put the cash into my account? Will she be able to access cash from my account without the three digit security code? I'm buzzing, forgot all about her till I saw that :)

Yes, it's safe

Are you going to give her your bank details or put them online to her? You could go round and collect the cash off her.

HBAHT?

I'd seen her about a few months after but she was crying poverty, so for her to be asking for a decorator I was buzzing, I knew she had the money, hook line and sinker. Not just that, I had to pay the ex's phone bill last week so I'm getting my share here, it's evening out even if it is a old borrow.

so you definitely cant go round and pick the cash up, then smash her back doors in whilst your there?

Didn't Clarkson put his sort code and account number in one of his columns saying they couldn't be used to access his money, and they duly were?

There are too many stories of folk being scammed but if you think its safe post them on here.

Is she Nigerian?

Go to your bank and open up a new account. Tell them you only want it for accepting a single DD/SO. That way, even if she does try doing something fraudulent with your account, the worst she can do is take back what she's putting in.

If you empty it regularly, she can't even get at that either.

In the interest of ensuring your bank account is safe, can you not just insist she pay you back in BJs?

You can easily set up a direct debit with account number and sort code, can't you?

Never done it where someone else pays into my account, I'm gonna phone the bank and ask them is it risk free

Its not risk free.

Fraudsters get one piece of information and piece it together with others. Think about it, she knows your name, who you bank with, account number, sort code. Possibly DOB and address?

Get round her house for it if you cant trust her (which im guessing you cant as youve asked on here)

Sorry Fred, I can't ask this one as she's got a new chap, but she carrys plenty timber and her nips faced south if that helps.

I'd rather give Paypal 3% than give my account details out.

Anyway, if she uses Paypal Gift, she pays the fees at her end, which is only fair.
