Relegation seemed possible.

Very likely is pushing it a little.

The vast majority of our stay in the top flight was staring relegation in the face.

We were going down. No doubt about it IMO

But he signed Cahill.

Possibly, but with a transfer window coming up, he might have done something. One thing Megson was decent at was signing players. Motivating them and playing the right tactics, perhaps not.

I don't think we were.

I don't think Megson was a good motivator, Elmander and Campo didn't like him and hated him shouting all time from touchlines.

Do you like it when your employer shouts?  Actually scrap that, its a bad example.

Sometimes the boss shouts, sometimes its at you because your actions are making his/her life fucking difficult.  It's part of being a grown up.

Megson was very unlkeable, only 1% wanted him/was happy with his appointment. the players probably would just ignore him shouting/getting heated on the touchlines.

"James, stop dancing like a twat, inhaling cinnamon and get some work done"?

"No, I won't call th'ambulance."

I don't think we were.

We were 3rd bottom

had just thrown away that game v Hull

we'd won once in about 2 months

the players looked brow beaten, miserable and unmotivated

The atmosphere was certainly not conducive to winning matches, pulling together with our backs against the wall, as is needed in relegation scraps

We had only downward momentum

But he signed Cahill.

He could've signed Messi and Ronny but in my eyes he would've still been a cunt

i quite like cunts

can't stand dicks

megson left us higher than when he got us

coyle took us 20 places down

anyway, thank fcuk we now have a good un

We were much more likely to go down under Megson the previous season after we'd lost away to Villa March/April time.

Sadly, 2 managers later, those who stopped going beause of him, still can't find their way back.

Think the excuse is now back to "euro 96 ruined everything."

They've sacked off the fat blokes with flags & fireworks

Music's back when we score, though.

Small steps.

alternatively, unbeaten in 4 with 6 points

sacking him made all the difference as we won 1 of the next 8

is megson another one who didn't think you could play :)

Hull was our 5th game unbeaten wasn't it?

We'd had a run of winnable games and then had horrid fuxtures in January

As much as he was found out later on, Coyle saved us that season no doubt at all

Of course there's fcuking doubt

Megsons 18 games got 18 points

Coyles 20 got 21

Anyway, what isn't in doubt is that ultimately Coyle failed

In a big, big way

The biggest drop in position under any manager in my time, but he wasn't a cunt

Your hatred for Coyle clouds your judgement of Megson

They were both duds

This thing a out Megson leaving us in a higher position than when he started; well they were both relegation places. And you could've taken over after Lee and had us finish higher up that season; that in itself was inevitable - we were never bad enough to be where we were.

We finished 13th in Gary Megsons only full season in charge.

Oh and we got to the last 16 of a European cup competition the season before.

Whatever you think of him that's not a bad return.
