  • I hope you don't ever need an NHS hospital. Having private healthcare doesn't mean you won't & trust me, if you have to pay, you'll soon be out of pocket.

  • IMO everybody should pay the same percentage of their wage.   It's wrong people get penalised for doing better.

  • It isn't fair in this country that they do not get more for their taxes. It should be pay more in get more out

About £9,500 per year.

There will be plenty earning just shy of that across the country that's for certain.

My salary is considerably less that than that.

My salary is considerably less that than that.

As is mine.

Is this another "thinly veiled" thread?

Once had a mate earning around £260K. Paid around £110K in tax & NI after pension deductions.

That aside, didn't ever see him shopping in Lidl and struggling with Freeview.

In case you don't know, I live and work in London. As does my partner. We neither of us earn enough to pay 45% tax (for that is the higher rate, not 50%). And we've both got enough to put some aside, into pensions and savings. And I repeat, anyone earning over £150k will know how to reduce their tax bill. Not all income earned is taxable. Don't worry about the £150K plus earners.

Fair enough. Just saying anyone earning a large salary through PAYE has to pay a huge amount of tax and NI and no accountant in the land can do anything about it. I am not saying anyone should feel sympathy for those lucky enough to earn such amounts but I am just saying these people pay a fortune in direct and indirect taxes which keeps us normal folks tax rates down.

As is mine.

No, it isn't

Struggling with Freeview?

Most of the peasants I knock about with have cable or some form of subscription telly, some of the wealthier, clevererer and more cultured folk I know have only Freeview, usually tuned to BBC Four if on at all.

after my recent tax investigation, they informed me i spend more a year on holidays than i declare as my net profit. good job i'm lucky at the casino and racetrack isn't it

I have a yacht, made of gold, moored on the Costa Esmerelda, I wipe my arse on my mink bog roll too, which I flush into the Med from a bog made of a big pearl clam - which had the biggest pearl in the world in it - which is now encase in a platinum crown, which I wear on my head.

No, it isn't

Lady Diver earning too much then?

They do get more for their taxes...

Ring the police to report a break-in in Kensington and see how quickly they arrive.

Do the same in Byker or Ordsall and see how long they take (and who they send).

This isn't confined to police related stuff either - schools, parks, GPs, public amenities etc. all tend to be better in affluent areas.

does that not have something to do with the people rather than the tax paid. for example everyone slates warrington hospital for being dirty yet i used to see people dropping litter inside the hospital on a daily basis when my dad was in there.

Im sure I read somewhere that the top 20% earners pay more in tax and NI than the rest of the 80%. Pretty sure the rich pay more than their fair share as it is.

Na mate. The rich are getting richer and the poor have to choose between Lamberts and food for the kids.

It said so on Daytime the other day.

I suppose it's partly to do with the folk themselves, yes - but other things like police response times are...well, not everyone who lives in a poor area is a criminal, there does seem to be a two-tier system in place though.

Unfortunately, something we have no control over.

My uncle earned a fortune working for barclays and spent most of his time moaning about scroungers, lay abouts and immigrants robbing the country. The only time he stopped was to proudly tell us he didn't pay any tax and how we all needed a good accountant. I won't be losing any sleep over the top earners.

More true than you could imagine!

Well those statements just prove how out of touch you both are with the common man (and common women) - you're as bad as George, Gideon, The two Eds and the rest.

'Carlton' or 'Sovereign' cigarettes are the smoke of choice these days, boxes of 'Amber Leaf' tobacco, with the sweetener of free 'skins' (to use the parlance of the impoverished), are used to make roll-ups when the smoker is in very straightened circumstances.

The people making serious payments towards public services do not use most of them - certainly not schools or hospitals.

Bollocks

Do they have private security firms too?

True! You should pay for what you use! An opt out option from NHS healthcare for example

My current bugbear, inheritance tax.

It's a fucking minefield.

Bollocks

You think the top 20,000 earners go and wait in A&E when they break an arm, sit on a waiting list for operations and send Jemima to the local comp?

Some do, Most don't.
