No country has 'World Class' 18 years olds ffs.

1986 through to 2002 I think we were good enough to win a tournament.

Ever since then we've gone backwards whilst all the 'lesser' nations have progressed at a rate of knots.

We'll not come close to winning a tournament in my lifetime.

But it won't stop me hoping we will each and every time.

More chance of your Club winning something these days......

The only thing I'm looking forward to in reference to international football is a top piss up in France in 2 years time

I was going to edit and say 'if we are going' but fuck it I'm going anyway

i bet half those players are nowhere to be seen.

Maybe shilton

Are you sure? We were terrible in the group stages in 1986. We lost all three group games at the Euros in 1988. We failed to get through the group stage in the Euros in 1992. We didn't even qualify for the World Cup in 1994.

Yes, I'm sure thanks.

I didn't say every single tournament during that period did I?

You've conveniently mentioned only the tournaments where we were gash but failed to mention Italia 90 and Euro 96.

So why say '1986 through to 2002' then, when clearly we were shit at most of the tournaments in that period?

After 5-1 in Munich, I thought we had a chance of a great side

Seaman, Neville, Cole, Campbell, Ferdinand, Scholes, Gerrard, Beckham, Owen. All in their early 20's (Seaman excepted), all playing for CL sides. Think most of them won the CL.

We didnt get anywhere near. Cant see it ever changing when the short-termism and selfishness in English football still exists

Funnily enough, Sven's time in charge is beginning to look like a golden era. We always qualified fairly comfortably and never failed to reach the quarter finals.

looking back I think the best squad we had was in 2006 - I think it was the most talented and most were in their prime

looking forward though, I hope our hopes aren't resting on the likes of Rodwell, Zaha and Rodriguez - we might as well keep trying Gerrard and Lampard till it works

Are you being intentionally thick as fuck?

2002 was the missed opportunity in recent years. That tournament was wide open. A lot of big names went early.  Turkey and South Korea in the Semi's.

Are you being intentionally thick as fuck?

I think you've already cornered that market. You didn't even mention the tournaments we had a realistic chance of winning in 2004 and 2006, but yet you quote a period which included a tournament we didn't even qualify for.
