Yes Maaaarsh, that nasty piece of work the Arts Council are diddling the figures to get more money from the DCMS, even though funding has been cut for the past 4 years. Sooooooo, that's why I've been doing more work as part of the conservatives Catalyst programme which is paying us to skill fundraisers in the arts sector to increase both individual and corporate giving. It's a good scheme and the Conservatives working with ACE have developed something that hopefully should have real long term benefits.

And Traf, I'm afraid they don't count repeat attenders in their figs, but it's actually more important to the sustainability if any cultural attraction to increase frequency.

Most people consider themselves a regular attendee if they visit a museum or theatre twice in 12 months, which we need to increase to get real self sustaining financial models.

Saying that though, I'm off to see a play this afternoon and am I fuck paying for it.

Working in Billaricay the week after Madrid, we finished early BS my train ticket wasn't valid until 7, few hours to kill I headed off and found a fucking amazing museum, the British Museum? The Terracotta Army was on show.

Chillax it was a joke (because saying governmant funded things can't lie is laughable) - I don't know anyone who hasn't been to a museum or gallery in the last year, so I'm very happy to believe this.

I know, I was giving you boys a bit of credit., but NDPBs don't tend to lie on attendance figures in general; otherwise central office will be down on them like a ton of bricks.

That's not to say there isn't waste like.

Quite happy if the figures are right, but 50%????

Quite happy if the figures are right, but 50%????

We can extrapolate that further. If we take any member of the public at random we can confidently predict that they might have visited a museum in the past 12 months or they might not have.

Is the man and scythe a museum?

As I say, go on ACE's website and look for yersen.

Been to 4 in last year. Taken little girl to bolton museum about 3/4 times. She loves it there.

Bolton steam museum is interesting and hopefully I'll have a nosey round Dibnahs place soon.

Joining English heritage next month for some nice family day outs.

Personally I wouldn't join EH if you live in the NW, there's not much; better doing NT.

Down here EH have Alderley End which is 20 mins away and is fanatastic so we have an annual pass. Mum and dad we're going to join and even the bloke selling membership said there's not much in the NW, there is Smithills Hall though!

Do you mean Audley end? Beautiful, used to love their Summer concerts.

Has anybody ever been to Keswick Pencil Museum?

Apparently it's home to the world's largest colour pencil.

I've been in the shop bit while waiting for my girlfriend to use the facilities   - thinly veiled my life's pretty rock n roll

Gutted I couldn't get a free sneak peak of the big bastard whilst in there

Yes. Pernickety fucker.

This year it's Weller. Plus the usual 80s concert and last night of the proms thing.

The kids love it there so we're there most weekends throughout the summer. Plus they've just opened up the nursery this year. The history days are also brilliant.

We go to Dover Castle a lot and that is also fantastic, but aside from Boldover Castle some EH spot really are a ruin in a field. But with EH membership you get discounts off IWM's as well and Duxford is only 5 miles away so, it's well worth it.

Take it up with ACE; trust me, the data is correct.

I'm surpised

Is it still free to enter museums?

I'm at a dinner at the Natural History Museum in a few months and the evening is compared by Colin Murray

I suspect I won't be fond of museums afterwards

Him off Fighting Talk? He's OK on that.

We hold an event there every year, it's a top venue. Watching the caterers and staff turn a museum space into a gala dinner venue in an hour after the museum closes is a sight to see. There's a bloody army of them at work, and they literally finish and clear off down one end of the hall while the guests start to come in the other end, totally oblivious!

Audley end is Local to me, I'll have to look into it, got two little ones of my own to entertain. Oh for the days where you just turfed your kids out on the street until tea time.

Costs £85 for a couple's membership for the year and you can take up to 8 kids free of charge. I think we made that back by attending on event day at AE last summer as adult tickets are silly prices for non members but free if you are one.

We can spend a good afternoon there even where there isn't an event one, take a picnic, the stables are always open, playground is good but take a football and the grounds are ace.

Trust me, its well worth it if you've got kids.

Also the AE railway is opposite the house, and there's a massive playground there as well open in the summer.

And BD - there you go, told you it was right. And yes museums are free; but places like the British Museum will charge for the big exhibitions such as the Viking one they've got at the moment which is I like around £17/18 per adult.

Data sets such as this are difficult though; within most largest museums each dept might work with a different CRM with very little data crossver; plus the inherent problem of not being ticketed. Personally I find this all really interesting, but I know its dull as fuck to most folk.
