I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

To be begrudgingly fair to the massives, it was citeh's 4th trip to Wembley already this season.

does that include Spurs away?

to be fair, am not knocking them - the prices are daft, it was something like £150 for an adult and kid at the FA Cup semi.  fuck that.  and kick off at 17.30 so you if it goes to extra time it's probably a ball ache to get home.

as keep saying though, it's funny because they used to be all over Utd if they spotted an empty seat at Old Trafford back when they didn't win stuff.  and now they do, they can't take the flak off fans of Utd and Liverpool who you know would sell out regardless, because they have more fans.

I'd laugh my cock off though if they only came away this season with the league cup

When you're in a Wembley Semi-Final and you're the massive favourite to win the game, wouldn't you risk missing your team in a SF in order to make watching your team in the final more affordable?

If the City v Brighton game had taken place at Villa Park like they would historically have been, it would have been a sell-out.

Villa Park would have been the (non-Wembley) venue for Wolves v Watford.

City v Brighton would have been in London at Chelsea or Arsenal (or even Wembley!).

Says who? I reckon the other way around would favour none of the four teams whereas Villa Park would definitely favour Wolves. I've never said this before but Malcolm, I think you're wrong.

I too reckon it would be the other way round.

The fairest way would be to have both games at Villa Park maybe. (Still favours Wolves)

Wolves v Arsenal was at Villa Park in 1998.

That wasn't feasible when semi-finals were played at 3pm on a Saturday, but in 1980 West Ham v Everton was at Villa (replay at Leeds) and Arsenal v Liverpool was at Hillsborough with first and second replays at Villa. The third replay was at Coventry (old ground) 9 days before the final.

I thought away tickets in the premier were a maximum of £30 now ?

Other semi-final.

Newcastle v Sheff United which was played at Old Trafford.

I'm fairly sure a decision on venues is only made once the semi-finalists are known.

As Arsenal beat West Ham in a sixth round replay that may not have been the case that year since it had no geographical impact which London club qualified.

Neither Sheffield club has ever won a semi-final in Manchester (or, indeed, Greater Manchester), despite numerous appearances at 5 different venues (plus one at Burnden for United).

And for that reason alone, City would have been at Villa Park.

And where would you hold a semi-final between Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday?

Cross that bridge at the time

OT maybe

Charity Shield, League Cup, Spurs away then FA semi

no reason City couldn't play at OT

if they did go back, why would they use an old limited stadium like Villa?

Old Trafford and Emirates (or Spurs as of last week) would be more likely I'd have thought

Villa might be middle of the country but it holds fuck all, relatively speaking

I think it'd cause a lot of ill feeling if City were asked to travel to the other side of the same city (I know, Salford is a different city but you know what I mean) and the other team, unless also a North West based team travel into Manchester.

Since when do FA EPL EFL give two fucks about what fans think

and?

ill feeling isn't a factor, given they make fans travel to Wembley and pay £75 a ticket for the semis at times that don't fit in with public transport links (for teams outside of London)

what the fans want is bottom of the list of deciding factors, they'll play where they are told

Don't think Sheff Utd/Weds would have been too impressed having to play their semi final at Wembley years ago even if it was to even it up from Spurs/Arsenal playing their semi their as well

Wrong! They were scheduled to play their semi-final at Leeds United and kicked off.

The clubs did indeed, thought the others would have an unfair advantage iirc.

Not sure the fans were too impressed though.

Meant the fans

I thought it had been the fans making the noise about one semi final getting an outing at that there Wembley and theirs not even getting out of Yorkshire.
