How did blackpool get promoted? Did the oystons ever back the club? Did they just drop lucky with holloway and his thrown together team then back him a bit once they smelt glory?? Genuinely I've no idea but thought they had successive promotions so can't have been all take take take?

See the whole non-backing thing goes backs over 20 years mate.

I remember demonstrations when I was a kid. They had marches down the prom and a couple of games they all legged it to the centre circle and staged a sit down protest.

The Oystons have only ever spent money when they had to. The pressue was on to sort the ground out after the Taylor report to sort the ground out etc,and after the stands was condemned and deemed unsafe anyway they tore down the scratching sheds in 1999 and then the south stand in 2000.

The scratching sheds have still never been rebuilt! They only put a roof on the temporary stand when they got in the prem. It was scaffold stand for a season before that!

They built the south stand using Belekons money.

On the pitch you could say they dropped lucky, but holloway built a team perfect for this division. A bit like Coyle did at Burnley. The last bit of the season was a like a cup run. Going at teams from the off with loads of pace and teams shit their pants. I couldn't believe my eyes when they twatted forest away in play offs to get to final. Then they beat a tired a Cardiff team who didnt turn up. Everything just clicked into place.

Holloway found gems in Charlie Adam and Matt Phillips etc and the very same approach nearly kept em up. The Oystons spent the bare minimum they could to mount a challenge. The rest was done by Holloway and his ability in the transfer market.

The stories of cost cutting and penny pinching go back decades. I witnessed it first hand when I worked there 15 years ago!

Something's properly changed over the last 3 seasons though. This has gone from being tight to full on sabotage. Take a look on tangerine knights Facebook for some facts and figures.

Truth is,without Belekons 10% there's been little/no investment from the owners whatsoever.

  • Rotherham play Birmingham on Good Friday so we'll know beforehand if we can put them down

  • FFS who actually gives a shit?   Let's get this thread back on topic, Bolton 3-1 to relegate the orange wankers.

  • Depends on Rotherham v Brighton on Friday.   If Blackpool win all their games they can get 44 pts. If we beat them then it'll be 41 pts. Rotherham are currently on 40.   A Rotherham win would also

Charlie Adams was on Goals on Sunday and said something like you've just said Gonzo about the football side of it, basically "we shouldn't have gone up that season because the club just weren't ready for it but everything went our way and the clubs facilities haven't changed from when i was there and it's a real shame"

Fuck um anyway

Edited by mannyroad58

Did he not take them to court over some payment or went close too? As you say though fuck em

Aye he promised all players a bonus if the they got promoted then renaged on it when they did. He tried saying the agreement stipulated automatic promotion only! Haha

3-0

Fair comment I suppose but he's never done "better" since really

Sometimes it just matches / clicks and for BFC and Holloway and BWFC and Allardyce this is how it appeared much to the surprise of the rest of the world

FWIW I reckon Allardyce is a miles better Managwr than Holloway

Don't think Holloway and Allardyce should be mentioned in the same breath in managerial ability terms.

Grayson got em out of league 1 right? I guess the oystons will just say we've proved you can go up the leagues without spending money - if u can get the right manager it's possible they could even take credit for it, there'll be plenty club owners think like that but who don't have the shite PR they do but as gonch says last 3 seasons it's gone to sabotage I ain't defending them

one problem is the football fans belief that owners are only allowed to lose money

one problem is the football fans belief that owners are only allowed to lose money

Hmmm i'd say making some money would be more than allowed, i'd love it if we were profitable for ED.

Making money whilst the business goes to shit in any industry is wrong surely?

well aye, its not black and white

but theres plenty businesses been run for the benefit of the shareholders with no thought for the customers

its just that football is very much in the public eye

i dunno if its already been touched on, but were the oystons milking it before promotion?

They've always been more inclined to take money out rather than put it in from what I can gather.

Like I said previously, stories of their penny pinching ways have been bounded about for 20 years. From second hand footballs to the lucozade saga...it's always been hugely comical.

When the Oystons bought the club they promised a new all seater stadium on Windyke farm near the motorway. Plans were passed and it was all going ahead till the Oystons backed out blaming increased costs.

Like I said previously,if it wasnt for Belekons investment they would still be playing in Division 3 with a two sided ground.

That's another bugbear of their fans. Belekon wanted more. He wanted to buy the club but the Oystons would only give 10%.

It's where I generally do sympathise with Blackpool fans on this. They just want a normal club run normally. With getting to the big time they had a chance to catch a generation of fans just like we did in the 90's. Much to my annoyance the whole town was buzzing. But the Oystons have systematically destroyed that.

They have been a laughing stock for as long as I can remember.

They are the basket case of basket cases I'd rather be Pompey than them

They weren't "in ability terms"

They were in the fact that they both overdelivered against the expected and against the odds for Lancashire based, unfashionable, former giants of the game

I'm sure you can see that reflects the notion mentioned of "right time, right place for the right Man"

And I'm sure you also see that wasn't me stating they are of similar capability

They want to be grateful that Rodney Marsh isn't their chairman, he said today he would spend £100m on Harry Kane if he was the chairman of a football club. ????

Now that is pissing money away! He is decent but fuck me that's abit steep!

Blackpool are as far away from Bolton as a club as holloway and Allardyce and are as managers.

So you disagree with the qualities I've used that describe them both?

Different levels of unfashionable they'd shown no sign of life for nearly 50 years in fact there was no pulse in the Blackpool corpse, we were already a bit of a yo yo team when Sam took over. It's a poor comparison you made.

It's not, you are just very precious

Am I? Just thought it was a pretty shit comparison TBH.

Imagine if Vicky Oyston hadn't had fired Big Sam off for having the audacity to lose in the play off semi final?!

How our paths could have changed.

Vicky Oyston? Why did Vicky Oyston do the hiring and firing? Where was the big cheese?

She was the Chairwoman whilst Owen was in the big house!
