June 3, 201511 yr It's a fucking horrible story. Mums nd step dad are gonna be wracked with guilt until the day they both die. Obvs there must've been unknown troubles in her head, but they'll still never forgive themselves. Simply tragic for all involved.

You suggested it was the preserve of 'gormless idiots on the internet' but I'll guarantee the police would think along those lines too when starting their enquiries in a missing child case. A Stepfather with a recent fraud conviction is going to be under the microscope straight away. That's just the way it is.
