  • Time for you ipswich story Zico??       right, my Ipswich story   first off, I absolutely gurantee 100% swear on what's left of my folks lives that this is true, ask my brothers, or mates, if yo

  • I've lost all faith.   What little money we have got has been spunked on an unbalanced squad. We might be spending small amounts on players, but there are 5 or 6 signings that add nothing to the tea

  • What the fuck are you talking about? You said most on here are questioning the signing of Rachuba. That is plainly fucking bollox. You got 'verbally buttfucked' as you so charmingly put it because

i think we had 5 points

other than that, i think hes reet

last 4 games included hull 2-2, city 3-3, another draw and a win, i think

Eh!

You're either rewriting history! Or my memory is fooked!

You Megson bashers always forget that mythical second season where we did ok.

so have you as we weren't in Europe!

Personally, I think it all went wrong when we got rid of George Mulhall. But hey - at least it distracts us from thinking about the present.

Casino (I think) was the last to make a point with even the vaguest connection to this season - getting rid of Gartside won't change anything, but getting rid of Lennon might.

Assuming he means change anything on the pitch, then it's probably true (although if getting rid of Gartside wouldn't change anything at all, doesn't that imply he isn't doing anything...?)

Getting rid of Lennon might change things - it might make them better. Or it might make them worse. Or it might not change anything (most likely option, IMHO...) It would also cost a lot of money, as (presumably), the new bloke would want his own back room staff - so we'd also have to get rid of the existing ones and recruit new ones. Less money for players - especially as the new bloke would complain about having a squad he hasn't put together and want to bring his own in. But wouldn't be able to.

So, given that, and the fact that even if it did change anything, it wouldn't necessarily change them for the better, what is the rationale for getting rid of Lennon?

Or we can just bicker about which not-very-good ex-Manager was marginally less bad than another. Which passes the time, I suppose.

Anyone want to put together a worst XI? People's memories may be so short as to include some of the current crop...

so have you as we weren't in Europe!

Haha too many speckled mitzi's :D

Still not a bad first couple of seasons whichever way round it was.

Glad someone got it!

Season 1 he kept us up with bunch of mentalists Sammy Lee signed from a 4 point start.

Season 2 we finished mid table and got to last 16 of UEFA cup.

Season 3 he was sacked with us in relegation zone after a 4 match unbeaten run.

We got 37 points in the Lee/ Megson season and 41 points in Megson's only full season.

We lost 19 of the 38 league games in Megson's "mid table season"

West Ham went down with more points when we relegated them

And lets remember, the 2 years Megson was at the club, he went on the biggest spending spree that any Bolton Wanderers manager before or since has been allowed to go on.

wage bill + fees was greater under coyle

so, he was signing shite and paying em more

The current situation demands that the chairman of our club as a representative of the board makes some sort of statement regarding the future or the club ie

1.We are close to selling the club & ask for the fans patience.

2.We aren't close to selling the club & are totally skint .We all need to get behind the manager & team and battle for our survival.

Saying nowt to the club's supporters is indifference at best and arrogance at worst. He can't even be bothered rallying the troops.

Makes you weep, If Allardyce had that money wonder where we would be now?

We need to stop banging on about past manager and studying like-for-like. It's in the past, we need to look to the future!

and if the potential purchaser has demanded confidentiality?

lets risk it all for the sake of appeasing the bed sheets

It's got nothing to do with bed sheets it's about leadership & there's Fuck all of that at the moment. He doesn't need to spill the beans (if there are any)

Is that true as a % of turnover? I don't think it's a fair comparison as football inflation has been so out of control

I'm not sure myself, just asking the question

But with Premier league football the way it is I'd have guessed wage / transfer inflation to be at about +20% year on year. over the course of a 2 year period I would expect like for like budget to be circa +50%

With that in mind if you take the mid point of Megsons tenure vs the mid point of OC's then I'd expect you'd need at least 50% more budget to tread water with the same level of squad

A couple of years back you would have laughed if someone told you championship clubs were spending £8m - £12m on transfers as Burnley and Fulham have done recently

take your point and im just playing games :)

but i need to as folk compare megsons spending with allardyces so it works both ways

Hull two up and drew, city 3-1 against ten men and drew.

The fact that anyone has anything other than bad memories of the Megson era would be them re inventing history.

I get some fans did not help but the man was a complete and utter tool.

His ability to wind up and alienate people who needed to support him was second to none. Might explain his lack of involvement ant where of note in the game these days.

Correct

I bet in real terms Big Sam had the biggest budget

As more and more wealthy owners came in to the game and funded above and beyond the escalating television money our chances of defying gravity diminished further and each manager since has had it tougher and tougher

aye

however, captain clap had the 12th largest bill in the league

not that im still struggling to sleep or owt

In the transfer market maybe they have had it tougher but nobody could make a silk purse out a pig's ear like Sam did in the beginning. Compared to all the other managers since ,he was a genius. None of that Premier League adventure would have happened without him. Always get the suspicion certain folk like to try and undermine him and what he achieved and I genuinely don't know why any Bolton fan would want to do that.
