July 19, 201610 yr I've just had my renewal notice for my car insurance and it says that to cancel my policy, there's an admin fee of £50. This can't be right surely? I've always just searched for new and cheaper policies and cancelled them without a fee?
July 19, 20179 yr Daughter passed her test yesterday. Been looking at insurance on the usual comparison websites. The cheapest one which didn't want a telematics box fitted was GoGirl, who specialise in young female drivers. I was under the impression that insurance companies can't give female drivers preferential treatment. Did it hit the news two or three years ago with Sheila's Wheels?

They can't price based on gender. I think with go girl and 'drive like a girl' they hope lads won't want to insure with them because of the connotations of the insurer's name.
July 20, 20179 yr She said she put it on It was parked for at least half an hour and is a steep driveway so I can't see how it wasn't on, it would roll immediately Unless it was just not applied 100% not necessairy that's if meldrew is to be believed he had one, possibly 2 similar occurrences and it was something to do with expansion/contraction while the parts are hot and cooling that, combined with the slope and the weight of his vehicle, he says i still think hes a doddering old pisscan but heyho

A hot disc will expand and be closer to the pads. This means less handbrake application is made to keep the car from moving until the disc cools down and contracts away from the applied pads. We're talking thousandths of inches I guess but possibly enough to release the brakes sufficiently if the vehicle is on a hill.

Vauxhall have recalled them for faulty ratchet mechanism on the handbrake, had mine done on the last service. (62 plate).
July 20, 20179 yr Parking on hill = leave in gear Parking anywhere full stop. Always have done, it is just second nature to leave in gear.
July 20, 20179 yr Shouldn't have to though. I only ever leave in gear on a very steep incline. That being said it was a long time ago now.
July 23, 20179 yr Author Houses today aren't as robust. It may be right. But if it's a hairline crack, polyfilla, a sand and a bit of paint will do it. Get a photo of it and send it to me.
