The cabinet he has put together are mostly inept yes men and that is another issue. If I could choose anyone in the party it would be Jeremy Hunt.

I don't agree. I think he was helping to build an international concensus prior to the invasion. 

And I don't think a phone call with Putin would have made a blind bit of difference, sadly. 

I was never a big fan of BJ losing his job over 'partygate' anyway. Of all the things we could have pointed the finger at, at this government and it's this which almost brought him down.

I don't understand how you can conclude the US "will stand back with the Chinese and watch Europe burn". The responses of the two countries to the invasion have been radically different.

He might of been better talking to the Germans and together with France stop sending the Russians 100s of millions.

No but to be fair he has a point. Germany really need to hit Putin where it hurts even if it means higher gas prices. Not sure how much France relies on Russian gas and oil, didn't think it was much?

Germany had much further to go than ourselves and Schulz has pledged to stop importing Russian oil and coal by the end of the year, gas will take longer.  He could not afford to crash the economy, that would have affected all of us.

The Russians couldn’t burn some toast, their army is done.

Personally I would take that hit, simply because the short term loss may end up in a long term gain.  If the economic hit to Russia is too hard for them to withstand they may scale back and enter talks.

Seems this is how politics is going all over the world, least worst choice of 2 options. Luckily for Macron can’t see France voting in anywhere near big enough numbers for Le Pen to win.
