Whose red tape is it?

The EU's. That's the point, we should have stayed in the SM as per Dan Hannan who has now forgotten this for his peerage.

Or do you think we should have some special dispensation, what being Britain and all that?

Did you not know we'd be treated as a third-country when you voted for us to become a third-country?

They need us more than we need them, apparently, so it might have come as a surprise to him

He would do but the EU told him it was a bad idea so now he can't stop just to show those unelected beurocrats in Brussels what for.

I don’t give a toss to be honest, our exports are on an upward trajectory they tried stop us leaving, failed, and project fears predictions were found to be a lie. 🇬🇧

You do know "Project Fear" was a term created and perpetuated by the Leave campaigns, don't you? It wasn't an actual thing.

You miss the point of Rwanda.. it’s meant to be a deterrent to stop folk from attempting the crossing. It was never meant to house all those who arrived here.

Stop being sensible. It spoils his propaganda. I see channel crossing illegals are up 43% over the same period last year. He must be terribly excited. I wonder if he has a spare room? I'll bet Gary Lineker has more than one.

How is it a deterrent if Rwanda is a perfectly safe country, and there's a less than 2% chance they'll end up there anyway?

2% is a massive exaggeration

Its way, way less than 2%

Deterrent my arse, nothing more than a (very expensive) vanity project

I'm not sure anybody really thinks that it'll stop anybody making the crossing, if it ever actually happens, which it won't. When it originally was mentioned, I know some thought it was a good idea, I'll bet there are very few, if any, members of the general public who think we should still be pursuing this

The amount of money it's costing is utterly ridiculous, especially as we all know nobody will ever be sent there - I think we've already sent Rwanda the best part of £250M in return for zero people, apparently if/when we do send the 300 asylum seekers over there, it'll have cost a grand total of £580M - that's nearly £2M a person.

I’m not defending it, think it’s now complete waste of time and money. I was just pointing out that it was never meant to be a solution to get rid of a significant number of illegals.

I agree with that, but I also don't really see how it was ever going to be a deterrent to people making the crossing either - it's just been a massive cock up from start to finish, and yet they still won't let it go and just give it up as a bad job

It’s symptomatic of this bunch of Tories, protecting tax payers money and seeking value doesn’t come into it, they’ll spend whatever it takes to protect the Tory party, or grease the palms of their own.

Aren’t deterrents supposed to STOP things happening?

Crossings up 80%?

Someone somewhere is getting this all wrong.
