I watched us a few years ago take short corner after short corner, each time losing the ball before we got it in the box or managed anything approaching a shot. I'd rather we just lumped it in there than that.

maybe i am expecting too much from a professional footballer. 

 

Launching every ball forward (due to pressure at times) in no particular direction just invites more pressure. again i am probably wrong and expect too much but we don't seem to target people it appears to be hit and hope.

 

That was the difference between PNE and us Saturday. Their through balls found their players, ours found space or a PNE defender.

Kirchhoff's presence will, over a few games, reduce the number of aimless long balls and increase our possession count big style, by giving our back three / four a simple 10 yard pass to somebody they are confident in being able to deal with it.

 

I also don't subscribe to the notion that PP deliberately tells his defenders to lump it at every opportunity, more that they might like to pass it out but haven't the confidence to find a team mate if doing so under a modicum of pressure

As I've said before we suffer from having central defenders who are each of a similar ilk. I hope Kirchhoff can help resolve this issue as described above because it'll be a real difference maker.
