Rudy Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 What I took for granted as well is the seating position, there’s less room than a sleeping bag and you’re basically lay down, even though they’re driving a car, with the length of time they’re in them, they have to be super fit and strong, and absolutely nuts Quote
Spider Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I'd encourage everyone to go and do the indoor karting in Manchester. Try and do 4 sessions back to back, which is about 3/4's of an F1 race. I did it earlier in the year and my neck felt like Gerry Taggart had been stamping on it for 2 days after, and these karts only do 45mph. F1 drivers must have neck muscles like RSJ's. Quote

The Daytona one? I did that and I thought my tailbone had been replaced with a crunchie bar. I reckon they’re not faster than 50mph flat out, could you imagine doing 200mph in one Quote

The karts are electric at MEN and a bit faster. i can’t imagine the mind bending of trying to do a corner at 140mph whilst loads of other cars are trying to do the same. Mentalists Quote

Who knows? Hamilton’s going nowhere anyway until he’s either smashed all the records or he stops winning Quote

It's pure talent. As much as I am enjoying Hamilton's reign (and we won't see the like again), it would be good to see the top of the grid be a bit more competitive. Swap Max and Lewis for a season. That would go down to the wire I reckon Quote

Pressure on and he responds, be it batter the life out of it or caress it to the finishing line. He’d piss Red Bull off massively driving their car but would get every last ounce out of it. Max would simply demolish the times but destroy the car every now and again Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Just had a look at a database and compared Verstappen with Hamilton. Obviously Max has a special driver to compete against, but so did Hamilton early in his career. When you look at their stats, they're miles apart, moreso than I expected when you look at the early stages of their careers. Quote

I think Verstappen gets frustrated because he knows he could do it in the right car. Hamilton got into the right car faster than Verstappen . I think? Quote

Here you are: https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/max-verstappen/ Swap the name for Lewis and the difference is stark. Still time for Max, but I'm not sure he's quite in the same league. The odd race, a few laps, and in qualifying he can do amazing things; just not seeing the consistency. For want of a better description, like putting a football freestyler into a professional team. Winchester White Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Max is a talent without a doubt. What Lewis has done so well is mature into a driver that is still as fast as ever with ability but can now add maturity and composure to it. Add to the fact that the very best drivers can tune and develop their car with their engineers. Think of Senna, Prost and Alonso as examples of that. It gives them an edge not only over their team mate but their competitors and you then have the reason for his superiority. Quote
