I've got a feeling that many of the furloughed PAYE people will be found work by the Govt in exchange for their 80% payment, if this goes on much longer.

I'm not on furlough but wondered about those volunteering for it - would it make them first in line for redundancy at the end of the 3 months if things don't pick up?

Aye. Wouldn't surprise me.

Not unreasonable given the circumstances.

Even if it was just a day a week or something.

Also talk of using students in the fields; which, strangely, was common place not so long ago.

I know plenty l, myself included, who have been furloughed. I don't know anyone who has volunteered for it.

Surely though, if folk are running to their bosses' office asking for it then you'd imagine this won't be forgotten if/when redundancies have to be made.

Regarding the other points, if the Government start asking us to do other work, eg delivering stuff, I'd happily do it. It doesn't sit right with me being sat on my arse getting paid for doing nothing when I could be helping elsewhere.

Disagree there - I have someone who asked for furlough (only one who asked) because she has caring responsibilities for a disabled child so cannot work from home - much. I'm fairly sure that I won't be making her redundant first.....

It’s always going to raise a debate this and I can see it from all areas 

me personally I’m on furlough yes losing a good chunk even with getting 80% however it’s saved in other areas, but I’m happy to help out providing its safe to do so. 

other hand some lads at our place are struggling 20% down and overtime which adds another £60-£80 p/w I don’t blame them doing a bit of cash in hand work

If businesses need to furlough aren't they more likely to think poorly of staff who refuse offer? Goes both ways.

Good point, if a workforce of 50 needs halving, which half is 'taking one for the team', the 25 who stay, or the 25 who go down to 80% pay.

They're all in it together -  and kind of answers my earlier question about redundancies.

Wife on furlough from tomorrow. Last week her employers pushed through a 10% pay cut for 12 months across the board with the top earners taking 20% pay cut. 
So she will be getting 80% of the 90% salary now. So instead of £80 for every £100 it’s now £72 for every £100. 
Plus she dropped a day just before Xmas. So we were already 20% down before it started. 
Not great.

BUT - our clients may choose to go elsewhere if we are furloughed. And may never return. So after all this is over we’d have no business. 

Survive on the odd scrap of work we might be thrown in the next few months. Or take the furlough payment. Its a much tougher choice for some of us.

Its causing us issues, as we need to furlough, but theres stuff needs doing

Like you, we need to have a business when we return

I just find it morally wrong to take the govts generous deal, then look for ways to abuse it

Can someone explain to me a couple of things  

If you get paid more than £2500 p/m do you just get capped at £2500?

Also if you get paid an annual salary and not for the hours you work do you get 80% of your annual salary per month capped at £2500?

But yes

You get 80% of your basic salary, ie no overtime, up to a mzximum of 2500
