You being serious? West Ham hardly have a queue of long servants and world cup winning captains that died young. I recall City retired the number 23 for Marc Vivien Foe, that's ridiculous. FFS he

Apparently not a joke. Ridiculous.

In honour of his transfer saving them from being in trouble for financial fair play I’d say!

Our version of clough going to forest. But with inflation. :)

I don’t believe in retiring numbers unless they’re an exceptional player and it’s not a common number

But that’s rarely gonna happen.

i have OCD issues with shirt numbers.

Gallas CB No.10

Bendtner 52

Fuck off

Just seen it on Sky Sports News. We’re talking about a kid playing for Brum. What did he do to have the shirt number retired?

In a nutsell, play one season then get sold for £25m.

Not a bad piece of business for Birmingham that, it must be nice when you get a youth product who you can sell for a decent bit of wedge

United were rolling out the red carpet for the boy to try and get him. He’s a serious serious talent by all accounts   Fully expected to be regular starter for England.

I became aware of him a couple of years ago and have been keeping an eye on progress. Genuinely believed he was going for more so I think his current value has been surpressed a bit.

His representatives I am led to believe wanted around £3m in agents fees. United told them no thanks

That’s about standard on that size of deal though.

I had heard A while back that he wanted to go to Dortmund and United were doing everything to stop him. Serious player the lad is from what I’ve seen and heard (not that I’m an expert by any means)

be very surprised if he’s not playing in full England side In next 2 years

Not when they agreed in principle £15m.

Emeka Obasi was in Manchester recently. Jadon Sanchos agent.
Make of that what you will

Sancho will be a united player I’m sure of that. Actually be good to see him in the prem from an English point of view and I reckon they are probably the best club for him as he will get plenty game time.

They’ve got a bit of a rep for paying generous fees.
By all accounts Keane ending his Old fellas career was still a bit raw as well

Yes.

Totally unnecessary and meaningless.

Particularly these days when you can have any old number, i doubt anyone would've noticed anyway

It’s sent me down a bit of a Wiki rabbit hole. Turns out Ketsbaia has had his shirt retired by a team in Cyprus. My personal favourite though is AEL in Greece, who have retired the number 24 shirt in honour of Kobe Bryant. He didn’t even play the same sport FFS 🤣

Pardon me for being a numpty, is it the number 22 shirt per se so nobody at any club can wear it or just Bolton :unknw:
