if anyone has kids playing U7-U9s, the FA are having people record the kick ins/headers for next six weeks if you see anybody recording data

There aren't any headers now at that age group. Think I've seen 2 maybe all season as kids have got used to the rules.

We've conceded a couple of corners this season actually with kids ducking out of the way of the ball.

Yeah that’s the point- recording what they do instead. How many long balls, how many injuries, head injuries… I’ll send you the form if you like?

Any coach who’s throwing balls into the box cos kids can’t head a ball need to take their own noggin for a wobble! When you say we, which club? I’m gonna be doing the rounds.

I'm fine with avoiding any form 😀

If you're at the match tomorrow though would be good to chat to you. I'm a u8s manager now

So yesterday was a mix bag;

assessing U8s- parents coaching from the sidelines

coaching U6s- parents who want to coach didn’t turn up

i then trialed a Pay and Play format- invites development and low/mid ability players down to just pull on a shirt and play 5 8 min matches against different teams. Allow them to manage the game and just intervene when needed. No emphasis on the score, just have fun. Idea is you make friends, you hopefully improve, learn to be fair, but still get that undefinable buzz from playing.

A fiver a child… I raised £200 for charity in an hour supervising kids doing what they love. Defo think this has got legs

That's ace pal. My pal runs a football for all thing here and both my lads started through that kind of channel.

Remember when I was a kid there was 1 team for each area and that's your lot. If you weren't in that team there was no other football. Was a closed shop.

Stuff like you're doing opens all that up and as you know it's more than just kicking a ball about. Its life skills.

My lad played his first game for Fylde Coast Soccer yesterday on common edge, basically in Europe that :)

Won 8-0 and he came on as sub in first half and stayed on all game at right back. It's a proper standard now, players finding space, running in to channels, he didn't look out of place at all.

Best thing was the coaching though. He sat with him during his spell off, calmed his nerves and explained what he wanted him to do. Then on the field the kids had been prepped to show him how they play, when to pull out wide and to keep goal side, watch his lines etc. They all made it easy as they could.

Great coaching.

Some fit mums too.

Daughter played away in Radcliffe yesterday morning. Don't like getting on at grassroots volunteers, but the oppo manager reffed. When you see it being so obvious that they're deliberately trying to affect the result of the game through decisions, or lack thereof, it's really hard to keep your mouth shut

Daughter got a deliberate 2 handed push to the neck/throat, completely unpunished. A perfectly timed slide tackle that bobbled off the strikers shin and rolled to the keeper. He gave them a DIRECT fk for a passback, that he let them take quickly and the girl kicked it into an empty net. He celebrated with the players!

I (politely) tried bringing to his attention that despite it not being a passback, it should have been an indirect FK and he just started laughing and his assistant manager started gobbing her mouth off and I had to walk off for a bit. Finished 1-0 after about 25 dubious offside calls and thus was our girls first defeat of the season.

Grassroots at its worst.

Kicked off like fuck on the pitch next to us yesterday. Under 15s. All parents on and coaches punching eachother. BJFF v Foxhall.

One kid was throwing up after in shock covered in blood after getting 3 elbows to the mush off some kid who clearly does MMA or summet.

Horrible to watch.

its mad how much i equally love and hate grassroots; its the greatest game, loved by all... but then it turns so ugly so quickly; seen it all over the weekend- U10s abandoned due to a fight, U6s scoring first goal, U11s girls getting me in a TikTok, managers being off their beak... its crazy

Jesus, if it carries on the way it's going, there's going to be a requirement for security at grassroots matches. Absolutely unbelievable

They had a ref boss type bloke there yesterday overseeing things as the ref involved had reported grief in previous games with them.

I was running line on the same side as their coaches. It was bubbling all game, proper at eachother. It was no surprise when it went off.

Couple of years ago we had that much trouble with Fleetwood they were made to play at a neutral venue and had security there when we played them.

Crazy.

The lad has a clean sheet for the U15s v Bolton last night and was named on the bench for U18s this afternoon… didn’t get on, but still good experience; semi final of the cup

Pitch itself was shit, but stunning grounds. He’s had a stormer in front of England scouts- got his hand to a pen he maybe should’ve saved… but an absolute worldie that I’ll post when I can; won 2-1

final on Friday night… Edgeley Park 🙈💣😂

Yeah Floodlit Cup Northern Final- is he playing up a couple of years? Fair play, Burnley have a couple from that age in the squad. County have Michael Brown’s lad, plus a County legend lads playing. Centre back from Salford- been training with 1st team; 15 year old!

Usually good games, fairly close- let me know bud, see you down there

Unfortunately he’s not playing up.. he’s actually a young one at 13s and by the looks of things a late developer. In terms of sizes this season it’s carnage. Some are like men and some like my lad could pass for primary school age.. size seems to be a big driver for county at the minute  so it’s a tough time for my lad!

his group have been given the night off training to go down and watch. So I’ll no doubt be there.
