This week I’ve covered near 125000 steps, coached 40+ different kids aged 4-13, refereed one game and given 9 U4/U5s their first taste of  ‘organised’ football, a few scoring their first ever goal. I’ve tied about 12 shoelaces, and argued with parents who fail to understand we don’t have goal line technology at U10s, and that the whole ball needs to cross the line… something I doubt they can tell from 30 yards and an acute angle.

Good few days

Fair play to you. Making a massive impact on their lives even if you don’t always get the thanks you deserve.

I did 5 years coaching my lads team and stepped back at U12’s. Recently been asked to ref a few of his under 15 games (presumably because I used to coach and I’m the least fat dad 😂). Most stressful thing I do all week!

Which club are you coaching at if you don’t mind me asking.

I coach Soccer School (U5/U6s) and Development (up to 13 for those not in a team) at North Walkden. I also do private camps cheaper than any childcare, and looking at further options to get kids playing matches- regardless of ability

The wife's on this one pal. Sure she navigate through 🤦‍♂️

... I feel a bit dirty Paddy. He's actually coming with a team who he's been training with from a level above.

Feel bad as he's been with Bispham Juniors since the start. But without sounding big headed, he's outgrown them and is too good for them now.

Plus they've just signed another 2 girls making that 5 in his sqaud at 9-a-side. No idea what the coach is thinking.

This new team have 2 Fleetwood Town coaches down every Friday night for a session as well. He's fitted in so far, but not played a match yet. Monday will be a test...

He's been asked to sign for them after impressing over the past few weeks at training.

He's buzzing the lad.

His manager is gutted 😢

Any manager worth his salt will suck it up and be proud, you never know when paths will cross again.
I understand his frustration, he may think he’s got a plan- but your boy comes first.

I’ve had another parent back door it on me- I’ve had a group of 9 year olds (as many as 20 at one point) for 2 years. At least 5 parents have offered to take them as a team before changing their mind. I’ve had enough- I’m gonna try and get all my 7+ into teams elsewhere, and just do private coaching with them. Poor kids just want to play matches; fine, I’ll organise and charge the parents for it.

This team where my lads going have just lost two kids with mega disruptive parents.

Apparently tried a couple of times to form some kind of coo on the managers.

One lass bang on the vino after hours writing all sorts of the club what'sapp group.

What the fuck is wrong with people 😐

This new set of parents think me and the Mrs are upstanding pillars of the local community :)

It's eye opening for me hearing about your experiences in football, I do read about a lot of similar stuff on the socials and one of my athletes' brothers plays, have heard tales about some grim behaviour at games he's been at.

I'm relatively fortunate in athletics, most parents I deal with are reasonably measured, though I have seen an escalation in issues fellow coaches have had to put up with, and I had a pretty horrendous episode with a parent last year that required the intervention of our governing body.

I don’t know whether it’s because it’s girls in my case but most if not all the parents at our games are pretty supportive and no issues. Then again the majority are mums so I suppose that helps?

If you've got any decent u9's looking for a home mate, let me know - FT's team may have room for 1

Mums are the worst!

Mainly because they don't get football.

They just see their pride and joy not getting what they want.

They love a welfare grievance too.

Blokes might be shouty on the sides but it generally stops there.

U9s? I have 17! I'll be messaging them all and send details out; is he at A&T?

Speaking of disruptive parents can we all just take a minute to remember the infamous Nat IMG_5254.thumb.jpeg.59fd75566fda460f92c4a5b93eab3711.jpegIMG_5255.thumb.jpeg.d5b2bc5866e5b1055ae2d969781d6b4a.jpegIMG_5256.thumb.jpeg.3555ee3824dc7c52cbd91d1df5240885.jpegIMG_5257.thumb.jpeg.81b647d3449ec249b274cc1f7b320d36.jpeg😂

Again… Brockworth Beavers would’ve been a better fit
