MancWanderer
My Dad refused to collect his medals. He was really sad about spending the best years of his life in shit holes in Gibraltar and North Africa and hearing that his brother had died in a bombing mission. It really got to him Anyway, we finally persuaded him to sign a document just before he died 10 years ago and they were sent to him and I have them now I’ll see if I can find the documentation and letters that got them sent

Site Supporter only1swanny Posted November 15, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 15, 2020 Can you not ask the seller where they got them from? Grandad got awarded the Burma Star, my Dad lost it playing with it as a kid, apparently Grandad didn't really see it as something worthwhile. I suppose when you have been in that situation some people just don't want reminding.
Dimron
A lot of Lancashire lads joined the East Lancs Regiment a the beginning of the war (my Dad included) and they eventually became the 4th RTR. If your grandad had followed this path then I would have been able to help as I have researched the Regiment over the years. I suggest first call will be the Regimental Diaries, you need to get in touch with the Regiment, you will be amazed how much they have on record and how they will help. You will enjoy the journey. I think the Bolton Wanderers team signed up to the Royal Artillery en masse
