Same fatal mistake as HMV, Woolworths, BHS, Debenhams etc. IMO - thinking their 'name' can justify being 3x the price as elsewhere for the same (or similar) product.

i only use chippies, never order curries, pizza etc.  As i live on my own, i cook for 4 and freeze so i can nuke it when i get in.  

May I just check the spelling of gip in this context please?

I always thought it was gyp, short for “being gypped” eg. Being overcharged for groundwork on your driveway by a gang of transient east Europeans with connections to Bucharest?

Pizzas are outrageous. £15 a dominoes pizza and it is sugary shite. 
 

Vitamins and off the shelf medicines are massively marked up and have the same ingredients as the cheap ones

It's all the sundries with a curry though - a pain in the arse to get everything together at once, and onion bhajis are very hard to replicate at home.

They're interchangeable - like gypsy and gipsy. I only put 'gyp/gip' as originating from honourable tinkers in my twenties, after being gypped.

Back in the day when they were honourable 'tinker' wasn't pejorative as they mended metal goods, tinker being another name for tinsmith.

True its the same stuff but it can be made in a poorly cleaned factory etc.

Someone i knew worked M nA westhoughton which was a hole, people flicking bogies into the paracetamol mixers etc because they are treated poorly.

All about marketing. We live next to a river and the missus was about to buy 10 sandbags for fifty something quid on the internet. Soon stopped her, went to Jewsons and got 100 bags for £0.40each which take  about £1.00 of bagged sand each.
