Garrp Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Liverpool are reportedly trying to negotiate a swap deal that would see El-Hadji Diouf join Bolton permanently and Ivan Campo move to Anfield. Diouf, who has been on loan at The Reebok Stadium since the summer, is serving a three-game ban after admitting spitting at Portsmouth's Arjan de Zeeuw last weekend. Reds manager Rafael Benitez has already hinted he does not want Diouf back at Anfield in light of his latest indiscretion and given the fact that he has badly underachieved since his ??10m move from Lens 18 months ago. The striker is thought to be available for as little as ??500,000, though Benitez is known to be keen on Campo and is considering a cash-plus-player deal which could see Diouf and ??600,000 head to The Reebok in exchange for the former Spain international. The 30-year-old former Real Madrid player is one of the star performers at Bolton and although he operates largely in midfield at The Reebok, Benitez would like Campo to arrive as cover for central defence. Bolton boss Sam Allardyce would be loathe to lose Campo, and would like the player to see out his contract at The Reebok which lasts until 2006. However, Campo favours a move to Liverpool to play under Benitez and a deal could be struck when the transfer window reopens in January if the Spaniard presses ahead with his desire to move to Anfield. Liverpool, who have put a striker at the top of their wish-list in January, will have limited funds at their disposal if they push through a loan deal, as expected, for Fernando Morientes. Therefore a move for Campo would be seen as well within their budget and would give Benitez the cover he requires for Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher. fcuk RIGHT OFF
Zico Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 not for 600k, presuming Diouf is worth 500k no chance
Guest ian Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 spitter and ??600k !!! got to be very good business.
Smiley Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Like someone said the other day - not working with Campo and Speed in same team. Hierro could always slot in for Campo if sold. In light of the financial situation - ??600k could get us a decent 2nd string keeper as cover to Jussi.
Freddie_Hill Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Hierro has said he will retire at the end of the season, then what?
Smiley Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Sam's masterplan to get a youth policy up, running and producing the goods will hopefully come to the fore and we can stop relying on aging foreign superstars. Thinking about it again, lets keep Campo and get rid of the spitter.

Snow_white Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Too similar styles. Both defensive midfielders without out the legs to get forward unlike Nolan. Both excellent players just not in the same team.
Zico Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 no no no Nolan is only really any good in the attacking midfield role, and should be given a chance where Stelios is currently spending his Saturday afternoons
frank_spencer Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 we Were flyin till campo got injured make what you will of that!

It certainly wasn't him at The Reebok last weekend! I think it was his I-can't-play-football brother!!!
