October 24, 20214 yr Aren’t you supposed to volunteer the payment online rather than have them chase you? That’s certainly how it works for the Blackwall Tunnel or neighbouring QE2 Bridge. There are plenty signs telling you you need to pay within a week or so. Just looked online: You only need to pay once, no matter how many times you drive in and out of the Congestion Charge zone on the same day. You can pay in advance, on the day of travel or by midnight of the third charging day after travel. You need to pay a daily charge if you drive within the Congestion Charge zone 07:00-22:00, every day, except Christmas Day (25 December). The daily charge is £15 if you pay in advance or on the same day, or £17.50 by midnight of the third charging day after travel. If you don't pay by midnight on the third charging day after travel in the zone, you will receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

October 24, 20214 yr A different set up to the one we're getting. Much harsher down there, as it applies to all vehicles. Ours is purely a clean air job and not labelled as a congestion one. Could be the start though, and private vehicles may become included at some later date. Who knows.

October 24, 20214 yr Is that for all cars? I know the congestion zone was a daily charge but that was really very central. I am driving to Swiss Cottage in December and that is/was outside the congestion zone.

Petrol Euro 4 emissions or Diesel Euro 6 cars are exempt, which tends to be any petrol car from after 2008 and diesel from 2015 as a rule of thumb. Vans & Commercial vehicles may be different. There is a TFL Checker where you put your Reg number in and it'll tell you what may apply. I'm driving down to Acton end of November in a 2018 petrol and don't have to pay anything

Similar to GM one, except that's only on commercial vehicles. Looking at fuel prices at the moment, I'd Imagine a few more are looking at EVs.

October 26, 20214 yr Don't know anyone who regularly drives into London - much cheaper & easier to catch public transport, the only case for driving is if you finish/start in the middle of the night, though all the hospitals (1 example) that I know are on a night bus route. There's a daily cap on bus fares of £4.65 and you can catch as many buses as you want or need within an hour for £1.55 The daily cap for zone 4 to zone 1 is £10.60 which is for buses, trains & the tube I'd say as well that there isn't the stigma of catching public transport here as there is in other parts of the country. They already represent an approximately equal cost over the lifetime of the vehicle, and with battery factories expanding here and abroad, the purchase costs will be dropping too. Have a good read on t'internet- I've seen a good few articles recently about advancements and new models.

Maybe relatively to an ICE but I think you may be waiting a long time for coat to drop other than in models that’s are in essence carrying defunct tech

Was more meaning in relative terms to ice vehicles. With metal prices and energy costs high, can only see bodies and chassis etc going up. Batteries might drop a bit purely on supply/demand but these too need metals etc. I've read one article explaining that one manufacturer was looking to create vehicles that were used for longer, with just the battery being replaced (old one recycled). Sounds good.
