July 3, 200719 yr Two midfielders on a week long trial with us - http://www.bwfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Gener...1066199,00.html Come on now Sluffy, we have come to expect better from you than posting links to the official site. Have the two players been released by their current clubs or is there transfer fees involved?
July 3, 200719 yr Text from the article.... WANDERERS' manager Sammy Lee has confirmed that he is keeping tabs on two potential signings during the club's week-long training camp in Austria. The Bolton boss has invited Spanish midfielder Mikel Alonso and Swiss winger David Degen to the training camp with a view to signing the duo for next season. Alonso, 27, is the older brother of Liverpool's Xabi Alonso. The creative midfielder currently plays for Real Sociedad in La Liga. Last season he made 18 appearances and has been at the Basque club since 2002. Degen is a creative right-sided winger, who currently players in the Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach.. The 24 year-old Swiss international played 18 times for Borussia last season, but couldn't prevent the Club being relegated from the top-flight. Prior to his spell in Germany, Degen played four seasons for FC Basel in Switzerland under former Spurs manager Christian Gross. He has represented Switzerland at under 20, 21 and senior level respectively and was selected for the Swiss 2006 World Cup squad. Commenting on the two players, Wanderers' manager Sammy Lee said: "I have invited the two players over to Austria with the rest of the first team squad so we can have a good look at them. Both players could interest us for next season. "Mikel (Alonso) is a creative midfielder who has an excellent passing game similar to his brother Xabi, who plays at Liverpool. David (Degen) likes to play wide-right and exploit the flanks. He has a good turn of pace, which could add a new dimension to our style of play."
July 3, 200719 yr Looks like LSL is intending to play with wingers next season. SKD will have a field day. Also excellent wingplay is very exciting to watch. Roll on the new era!

Four little words we have not used to describe Bolton for a long time. I can see it now two wingers in a 4-4-2 at home and a more rigid 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 away.
July 3, 200719 yr Author Come on now Sluffy, we have come to expect better from you than posting links to the official site. Have the two players been released by their current clubs or is there transfer fees involved? I'm sorry Yatesy I can't copy and paste from the official site for some reason - hence why I only posted the link. Casino told me once it is because my computer is set up to use Internet Explorer and not Firefox that can copy and paste from most any site. As I have no computer technical skills - I rely on my 11 year old daughters know how! - so I've always been to frightened to mess around with the settings in case I bugger something up. At my age I don't think I will ever get to grips with computers like you young scally wags! So please bear with me from time to time. I see that Jayjay has very kindly posted the article in full - thanks for that JJ. Anyway roll on the new season, I for one can't wait.
July 3, 200719 yr Degen would be a very good signing and one that actually got me quite excited at the prospect as he looked pretty decent at the WC! Roll on next season, hopefully our football will be more Arsenal than aussie rules!

Using IE you have to use "save as" the page as a .txt file but it becomes a bit of a ballache as all text is saved. Well that's the way I used to do it anyway - never found out a better method.

July 3, 200719 yr Sluffy - you missed a trick there - you could have put the heading as 'We're After signing Alonso' then mention it's not Xabi in the text. Captainmed would have really creamed himself
July 3, 200719 yr some posts on here positive about these 2 lads, they have not played many games for there teams last year, so I would be suprised if they made the grade.
July 3, 200719 yr As previously posted I follow Real Sociedad pretty closely and for the past few years have flown over at least once a season. Mikel Alonso is not a winger but an up and down central midfielder, he gets plenty of running in. If we sell Faye and get him in that will be good business.
July 3, 200719 yr Mikel Alonso is...an up and down central midfielder, he gets plenty of running in. Like Speed used to be Like Nolan used to be Like Teymourian is supposed to be Heck - I thought we were going to see a good old fashioned out-and-out winger
July 3, 200719 yr Like Speed used to be Like Nolan used to be Like Teymourian is supposed to be Heck - I thought we were going to see a good old fashioned out-and-out winger Degan is the winger Alonso the midfielder
July 3, 200719 yr Sounds like he will fit in well: Swiss winger Degen, who was part of the Switzerland squad for the 2006 World Cup, is currently with Borussia Monchengladbach but is looking for another club after losing the support of his current employers. The 24-year-old was given a trial Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions Celtic in May after being berated for his lack of effort by Monchengladbach coach Jose Luhukay. Luhukay had earlier described him as a disruptive influence and sent him to train with the under-23 side
July 3, 200719 yr Sounds like he will fit in well: They said the same about the blessed Youri when he signed.
July 3, 200719 yr Degen would be a very good signing and one that actually got me quite excited at the prospect as he looked pretty decent at the WC! That was his brother at the World Cup; he plays for Dortmund. Think David also went, but he didn't get a game
July 3, 200719 yr That was his brother at the World Cup; he plays for Dortmund. Think David also went, but he didn't get a game feck it was, wasnt it... philip degen i think? ah fukc...
July 3, 200719 yr That was his brother at the World Cup; he plays for Dortmund. Think David also went, but he didn't get a game So basically, let me understand this. We are after the shite brothers.
July 7, 200719 yr Lee given Alonso green light Real Sociedad have confirmed they are ready to do a deal with Bolton if they pursue an interest in Mikel Alonso. Wanderers are casting a keen eye on the playmaker after he linked up with the rest of the squad at the club's training camp in Austria and boss Sammy Lee will soon have to decide whether to pursue a deal. Sociedad, who are now managed by former Fulham boss Chris Coleman, were relegated from La Liga last season and the club have revealed they will not stand in his way if Bolton want to strike a deal. "Bolton Wanderers have shown an interest in acquiring Mikel Alonso," said a spokesman for the Basque club. "Real Sociedad have accepted the request to allow Alonso to take part in the pre-season with Bolton in Austria. "After that, Bolton will have to announce to Real Sociedad if they are definitely going to make an offer for the player." Lee also has to decide whether pursue a deal for Borussia Moenchengladbach's 24-year-old Swiss international wide man David Degen, who is in Austria as well.
