What that article and many others like it doesn't mention is that many of the lowest paid public sector jobs have been shipped out to the private sector. That skews the figures. For an example, look no further than the old Norweb building on Manchester Road which has 1200 workers doing jobs that used to be done by civil servants. Almost all of them get less than £15,000 a year. The company that runs that gaff is Serco, who are gradually taking over the country. Don't bother complaining about the shit customer service though. Commercial confidentiality will ensure that you're told precisely fuck all.
