  1. How do you know that's his bird? I'd lay odds that he's a loner. If he's nobbing that then I'm doing Cheryl Cole three times a week
  2. cheers Traf but the authorities won't be happy 'til they've outlawed the 50/50 challenge altogether. It altered the game and in real time from the press area it didn't look even like a foul. I'm willing Tom to do well on two counts obviously
  3. I promised you updates - bet you can't wait so here goes. Tom has played twice now for us. Pitch not looking the best at Greenhous Meadow but he's demonstrated good touch and an eye for goal so will be an asset for Town. Last night was really hard for the lad cos we were reduced to 10 men after 35 minutes (shit ref) and he ploughed the lone furrow up top. His goal bang on FT was courtesy of a goalkeeping howler but they all count. Sadly, it counted for very little as the Yorkshire blighters went down the other end to pox a winner. More (goal) updates to follow. Martin Wild. News At Ten. Shrewsbury.

I work with STFC's media department on matchdays so will look forward to seeing young Tom bang a few in while at Salop. It's a good club with excellent facilities and when our media manager asked the gaffer if there was any hopes of making the move a permanent one he answered: "I wish!" Apparently, been trying to persuade Wanderers to let the player come out on loan for 6 weeks. Good move for both parties. Good luck Tom Lad.
  5. My first game of the season at PP last night - yeah I know, shit fan but alternative football commitments every weekend and most midweeks. In short spells I thought we looked pretty good particularly on the counter and defensively there were some heroic blocks put in as players put their bodies on the line. For me though, we were all too often wasteful with the ball and gave it away far too much. In the last 10 minutes when they were mounting the pressure it needed someone to put their foot on the ball and find a dark shirt. Frustrate the 'til then very quiet home fans and not give them any kind of lift. The defender (at other end so couldn't tell) literally was ball watching for their equaliser so another soft goal conceded and but for a strong arm from Ginge to keepo that close range header out we might have lost that. From the back Rickets must've wasted possession more than most and one ball from Knight in the second half was like 40 yards in front of a team mate. We looked poor on the evidence of the 90 but they were no great shakes. Notably, N'gog, Eagles, Spearing, Rickets all looked like they were struggling. I liked the look of Craig Davies and when SKD came on he won some important headers and made the ball stick up top a bit more. 1-1 the right result.
  6. well have a +1 for the loyalty Carlos. I think Church Road could be a better option than MBP if they levelled out the slope and it'd be easier for parking than the Middlebrook too
  7. Ok, going to go all controversial here, they won the FA Cup and competed in Europe spending money they didn't have. There are other clubs who compete within their financial means who will never reach a Cup Final or compete in the San Siro, and a simple 10 point deduction does fuck all to the owners of these clubs who effectively cheat. It's happening again at Swindon now. This farce needs to end soon and they should start all over. It's happened at Halifax, Chester, Telford and Darlington, why shouldn't it happen to Pompey? And forget the love-in of all things South Coast, their fans were happy to pack out Fratton during the good times, but half of 'em have defected in the bad. You cannot have your cake and eat it. Now then, I'm preparing for an onslaught 'cos there's another club who have spent money they don't have in pursuit of their big dream. Now playing in a lower division with dwindling gates and a crippling debt. Do I think it could happen here? Yeah, I do. That £100m project at the Reebok would look a bit soft if Blyth Spartans were on the fixture cards would it not?

FWIW, their best League gate was on NYD v Shrewsbury which I covered for Town. There were 15,000 on. 1,500 travelled from Shropshire. At the game in Shrewsbury in September (Tuesday night) they were larging it about our ground not being big enough to hold the travelling army. 610 of the buggers turned up, for a game that's an hour away! Oh aye, and they all fucked off after an hour cos they were 4-0 down! Shit fans (unless it's a fiver to get in)
  9. For the 56 lost souls of Valley Parade (May, 1985) I hope they win the CO Cup. Oh, and that the Swansea ball boy misses the game cos of mumps
  10. a clean sheet away a clean sheet awaaaaay how shit must you be a clean sheet away
  11. Fuckin' ell. Michael Jackson's in better nick than him.
  12. Sharon Davies for them Miami?
  13. Isn't that illegal use of the copyrighted Twitter bird?
  14. I follow Andy Walker on Twitter. I though it was THE Andy Walker, turns out some bloke working for Brum. Handy today like - he says 889 coming from the Midlands not including those paying on the gate. Bet the twats enjoy themselves n'all. 0-2
  15. We wear a god awful all-purple kit, get stuffed 5-0. It's 4-0 going into stoppage time and we concede a rare penalty. Rubbing salt into already gaping wounds, Megson wins battle of the gingers when his pen hits the bar and twats Bogbrush on the napper before trickling over the line. Everyone boos. 24,444
  16. Two huge away followings right enough. Plenty of wooluffs there in 77 too when we lost 1-0 in front of 35000. It was Hospital Cup final that night and me and my mate lashed loads of goals in at Lever End when Manny Rd North turned round to see cup presented. Groundsman couldn't believe our enthusiasm after what had happened earlier that day. We were 13
  17. Miami, I remember the steps at the back of the embankment (pre-segregation) were especially steep, and new terracing and barriers were installed probs due to health & safety at same time as that walkway was put in. Deffo shaved a few thou off capacity though. Leeds had two thirds of it as I recall for a LC tie they won 3-1. It rained bottles all night long. How the fuck they got them in is anyone's guess
  18. I haven't many posts to my name but this has been the best thread ever on WW. Such a trip down memory lane for me. Although I never got involved in any of the hoolie stuff, I often bore witness to it and can recall easily all the games that Miami so brilliantly recalled. I also remember one Boxing Day ('76 I think) when we drew 2-2 at BP with Cloghie's Forest - the one and only time I ever remember the Lever End split right down the middle with fans of each side either side of the metal partition that divided it. Reference the semi with Everton, yeah Latchford headed past Jim McDonagh at the Lever End and McKenzie's pen almost hit the corner flag - widest miss from 12 yards I ever saw. I was 14 and never thought I'd live to see the day where Wandereres ran out at Wembley. The Chelsea and Wolves pitch invasions are as fresh with me now as they were 35 years ago. The mid to late 70's was the greatest time to witness Burnden full and what an intimidating place it could be. Nearly 40,000 v Stoke for that FAC 3rd round game where Byrom's hat-trick won the day, 42,000 for the Christmas clash with the Mackems when we came back from a Tony Dunne og at HT to win 2-1, 46,000 for the 5th round tie with Malcolm McDonald's Newcastle. Halcyon days. Puts pimples on me geese just thinking about 'em. Worthy's goal at home to Ipswich - even though we lost, and those defeats against York & Carlisle (both midweeks) and both feeling like my young worls had ended after we missed out back to back on promotions. That night at Blackburn when 20,000 Whites ventured up the A666 - just truly unbelievable times. The Reebok will never have what Burnden had in abundance. History, tradition and passion. I miss the old girl too.
  19. we'll be a goal down at half time (Kinsella for them from 35 yards with a screamer). The away fans will be housed in a temporary marquee behind the goals. Tickets will be hotter than Kim Kardashian's backside with sold out notices hung all over t'shop. But home fans will leave happy with Thompson, Taggart and McGinlay (2, one a pen) securing a 4-1 win. Oh, and the programme will be a fiver. Did I just dream that?
  20. Arsenal (Ipswich won it) although strictly speaking I was still a virgin when Osborne scored. The cricket was on when I eventually did. Late July or very early August 1978. Actually, that might have been the last time.
  21. I was there with me mate and his owd chap. I would have been 11. Shit scared I was - sat in the seats (to the right of the Spion Kop as you looked out) - and it was my first sense of real fear at a match. When they came for the return at BP on a Tuesday night, I was in the Manny Rd stand earlyish and watched as about 30 of em on the Embankment tied some rope around the plastic lettering of an advert at the back of the terrace (Magees Ales or summat). Incredible act of wanton vandalism it was, as with one huge yank on said rope - the fucking letters tumbled like dominoes. Never forgiven the Mandarins for that so fuck em and get em on. Oh and obviously RIP and all that bollocks.
  22. We will wear grey which will match the skies, white which will match the frost and red which will match the colour of the card waved in a defenders face after conceding a rare pen
  23. Can I just throw my tuppeny hapennyworth in here over the two teams thing? I have followed Wanderers all my life but I always wanted to get into football club journalism. So, after a 10 year stint at the Reebok with a ST in NSL, I left it behind to chance my arm with Shrewsbury Town. I've been working with them now for 6 seasons on a part-time basis. I do all their match reports (check them out at shrewsburytown.com straight after the match if you can be arsed 'cos some feedback would be good) and it's impossible not to get an affinity going. I've done ShrewsPlayer match commentary and loads of interviews so it's been great. However, my twitter feed is constant so I can get BWFC updates and my heart still sinks when we concede (don't we always) and jumps when we score. I do believe it's possible to have passion for two clubs and don't think it's weird at all. JSL. DFSWA. Oh, and just to get back on topic, STFC v BWFC or the other way around in the Cup would have been lovely. Only, 'we' got fucked at Hereford in R1 so that's pissed on those particular chips!
  24. A fortnight's all inclusive in Villamoura, or two week's worth of Harry Ramsden's with Candy Floss for puddin in a shit tip like the Norbreck Castle. Hmm... now let me see
