I buy (and thus donate money to old soldiers care and health), two wooden crosses and write the names of my great grandad (Boer War), great uncles (WW1 somme, Passchendaele), my Grandad and his brother (WW2 North Arica and Far East), and my dad (Suez 1956 - he didn't die here but was part of the SAS regiment that parachuted in with the French special forces and never got recognition for). I do it to remember their loss, their committment and their bravery, I remember because I should remember.
