Cruciate ligament injury, anteria ligament damage and cracked knee cap and no fancy operation to fix them back then

Academy
None taken, but it couldn't be for lack of speed as placed 6th in the Lancs under 18's 100metres, 10th in the cross country, and made the last 50 of the UK soccer skills (Kev Grundy in my year at school won it overall). I suppose my point was, I was offered terms at Rochdale, Oldham, Bury and Preston, who didn't seem too think I had potential. In the 1980's, it was widely accepted that as a young kid, you didn't sign up with Bolton to make it. Jason went to Blackburn because their set up was far superior (and they were in a higher league then).

Academy
In the 80's. I was in the same school team as Jason Wilcox, when Bolton and other NW teams came to watch us, the Bolton youth coach told my school coach that even though I was a good player, I was too small in height for them to be interested. I went on to sign schoolboy forms with Preston and had a bad knee injury in my first season and so ending my career. You never know if you'd make it, but it always stuck with me that my hometown team made a decision, not based on if I was any good, but because I was only 5" 2". Other lads from other school teams at the time said that even though they had other NW teams scouting, it was rare if anyone from Bolton ever turned up to watch.

No, it was a response to some fans calling are young kids shit, before they have had chance to have a crack at being in the first team proper. Eaves is crap, Vela isn't good enough etc etc.

Maybe this is the reason no one comes through the academy. Not even given a chance to prove himself in the first team and already he is shit, watchout all you young lads hoping to make it, as soon as you get 5 seconds run out you'll be labeled shit and useless.

Bolton 0 Qpr 1
On another note, no team will bring less fans to the Reebok than QPR...piss poor following for a Saturday

Crowds
What killed our support was the late 1970's through to late 1980's decline, a lot of younger fans turned to more successful clubs as a result of their Dad's, mums, brothers etc lack of willingness to go. I don't care if you area season ticket holder (like me), go to the odd match for various reasons, as long as you turn up when you can, you never know, you may want to come back more often. I don't like this what's a true fan lark, my mum hasn't been since the early 1970's, but didn't miss a match during the 50's, 60's etc, but she bleeds wanderers, and is as pissed off as I am when we lose

Forest 3 Bolton 0
Knight is never going to be dropped in a month of Sundays, so we'd best get used to the same old same old

Forest 3 Bolton 0
Defence was our main issue last season and it will be this. Any partnership with Knight = a weak defence, yes Wheater is slow etc, but he hasn't played much for a year so he may get better, Knight certainly won't. But who do we have to substitute them? This is our main issue

I wish people would quote exactly what was said! Klinsmann said: "We are very concerned about Stuart's situation. It looks like a very serious injury, but I'm not a doctor and I can't confirm it." Former Germany striker Klinsmann added on ussoccer.com: "We'll get an MRI and he'll have all the tests done. Stu is a player that when something happens, he knows when something happens. Hopefully it's not as bad, but it's not looking good right now."

Pre Season Friendlies
I preferred it when we played Atherton LR, Leigh etc, no one really gave a shit about the result, it was all about footie being back, having a few beers and calling tony kelly a fat bastard as he chugged along in midfield...i'll worry when we've played the first 6 and are struggling, until then it's pre-season fitness

Again I agree, perhaps it is because more is expected of him? I'm not sure, when he runs at pace he is excellent, but for me, it is when he puts up no effort when tracking back BUT, towards the latter part of the season, he was doing more of this tracking back and tackling, and I was impressed , I just he would do that more often
-

Totally agree, which is why i'm surprised we never play him behind the lone striker when we play that formation, I personally think he'd be more dangerous
-

Agree completely, I wasn't haven't a dig, just making the point that people only remember the bad bits. He infuriates the hell out of me sometimes, but there is no doubt he creates more than he gets credit for. The only person I have no time for is knight, because he loses concentration so many times during a match, it is a wonder we don't concede more, he thinks he is better than he is, and he consistently stands there and blames others, for mistakes that are obviously ones he has made
-
Freedman In
I think he is like all wingers, you only remember the times he didn't track back and it cost a goal, rather than the saving a point or winning a match with a goal he scored

Pre Season Friendlies
I'm assuming midfield will be Medo, Holden, Hall and EaglesEagles and if a 5th (away from home) pratley or vela or chungy

From watching Holden in the gold cup, reckon him coming back will add the momentum in midfield in place of Pratley
