Many vets practices bought up in exactly the same way as has happened to the dentists in the UK. Back to 1970s 80s , nearly all dentists and vets were independent and sole trader with junior partners. The owner of the practice would be middle aged , male and the sole bread winner for his middle class family. He needed to carry out work to provide an income for his family (i refer to dentists here) Forward 30 years , 95% of dentists being trained in the UK are female , soon to want to start a family and also not the main bread winner in that family, so trained up ,but year after year after year being lost to the profession they trained in. Along comes the financial crash this century and banks plus investments go tits up, but someone in Europe looks at our tired out medical blueprint for our teeth and animals and see they can gain a far more reliable income buying up these tiny independent practices , way more than money markets. Some of the big pet ones are German owned , they refer to individual vets as CGU units Cash generator units As for your teeth they all take a salary to look after your teeth but refuse unless you pay private. Lots of people wont believe this , but i work with lots of Eastern Europeans and in my experience it is true . Worked with half a dozen in the last 18 months that needed long term treatment and have left the job and gone back home.
