There is a great story about a mini bus full of lads from Kent or some where darn sarf who came up to the VaVa for the Friday all nighter,just so happened to be the night it got busted ,so they couldn't get in and their bus had fucked off to leave them for the night,they trawled the hotspots of town being made decidedly unwelcome every where basically shitting themselves, and in a desperate attempt to stay safe and warm finished up in the aforementioned domino club. You could imagine the night being an eye opener for them !

The thing about Wood St was it was licensed to serve on after the old 3o'clock chucking out time,their used to be a few places like this and obviously attracted some dubious characters and folk just wanting to have a good sesh used the catholic club near Trinity St a few times it was packed with pissed up builders and thick with smoke ,I wonder how I'm still batting .

Thirty odd years ago I was working with in Bolton with an older bloke 50 ish he lived over Crawshawbooth and because he and his Mrs. were going through a divorce he had no reason to get home ,it was summer and he pulled on to a carpark over the tops somewhere the silly old twat smoked a pipe so he had a smoke and dozed off, he was woken by a car pulling up at the side of his which he said was strange as the place was deserted, he glanced across as you do and a girl in her 20s was looking at him and smiled, this happened a few times then a wave followed he wondered what the fuck was going on ,anyhow the outcome was she approached his car got in exchanged a few pleasantries, gave him a munch and fucked off. I asked him what he did then and he said had another pipe of course.

Recently read the follow up book to the "Worktown " social study on Bolton, cant remember the name it was talked about on here a few years ago,the chapter on pubs described the Lord Clyde as the last of the ale houses left describing some interesting features from back in the day.
