First Past the Post was adopted as part of electoral reforms after the first world war and was only intended as a "stop gap" until a fairer system was decided upon, AV or PR or some other. Trouble is, if you get into power via FPTP you then want to retain it no matter what you said previously. The Tories have been a historical supporter of FPTP... I find the criminality of carrying out a rushed and bodged operation on the request of the Israeli state staggering, particularly how quickly the world has forgotten what happened on the first day owing to the obvious lack of preparation and military intelligence.
