Other than being ‘town centre’ (where nobody lives), the parking and traffic would be miles worse than what we currently have with thousands of parking spaces and right next to a motorway junction. If nothing else, how many 12k-14k midweek gates did we get in anything up to the final 15 years of Burnden? There was lots of housing near to Burnden. As there is now with Horwich, but in general, a central location meant a shorter distance of travel for the majority. A big car park close by is all well and good if folk can get off it reasonably quickly. Majority of those aren't using the motorway, so need to use local roads. Yes, traffic would also be bad around Burnden, but you would always be away quicker if parked in the streets close by.

Surely using local roads would make the traffic much worse than a dual carriageway and a motorway?

That dual carriage way has to carry all traffic away from the stadium, then it gets slowed down at either end when going onto local roads. Just one road away. Previously, a number of local roads running radially away, gradually spreading out onto the network of housing. Without doubt a higher proportion of fans would walk to the game too- taking in some of the boozers en-route.

Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 16 Site Supporter Share Posted March 16 If the ground is the attraction, then surely the quality of any redevelopment would have been the deciding factor. Top flight football has its own attraction. Not that there is anything wrong with the Reebok as a ground, just has shit traffic.

Well aye but if we stay at burnden we probably end up with something like selhurst park Doubt there was the space to build something the size of and majestic as the reebok with all it's facilities Big Sam used to talk about the factor that ground had when selling the club to the players, it was a ground for the 21st century I don't think we would have got anything like that redeveloping burnden

Didi Hamman would have fucked us off straight away. And Jardell and the one that got homesick (can't think of his name) would have ben right back on the coach. Me, initially. It might sound big-headed, but I’m the salesman, and one of the biggest sales pitches is the Premiership. Then it’s how you portray the game and how they’ll fit into your team. If they like that, they come and see the stadium – pound for pound, the best in the country.
