Theatre question for NiC

During the Easter break, I enjoyed a couple of nights in London, Thursday to Saturday.

On the Thursday we went up to the West End and failed to get tickets for Les Mis. Well, we could’ve got a pair but not for the £200 each they wanted.

Anyway, we went next door to the Gielgud Theatre and got a couple of decent seats for £50 each. The musical was Opening Night starring Sheridan Smith. Fucking woeful!  Many in our area didn’t return after the interval it was so crap. I decided the second half couldn’t be as bad as the first. I was wrong!

What’s the feeling in Theatre Land that it’s been cut short by a couple of months. Is this usual or do they normally persevere?

Maybe that was the plan 😛

Recall reading that there were flops like Annie 2, Carrie and musical version of Gone with the Wind that got pulled quickly.

Rocky Horror apparently failed at first as a theatre show.

Yeah - Easter innit - never get cheap seats. My mrs works on a lot of the WE and we can't get comps over Easter hols unless its directly work, easier over xmas.

No real feeling, just hasn't sold - it happens. I mean Rufus Wainwright's music is a bit esoteric for many people, but casting Sheridan g'tees a certain level of Box Office. As I say, it happens, if anyone actually knew what would be a hit everytime no one would need to work. Those shows that looked nailed on fail, those that look like they'd be a struggle and have a long build up process - like say Operation Mincemeat - can be massively successful. Not even ALW or Macintosh have a hit everytime. Wessex Grove a very successful producers, just hasn't landed this time.

Put it this way, if I won the lottery, I'd put as much of my win in a theatre show as I'd be comfortable to lose.

'A Way to Wander'

A New Musical

When you're in your 40s but voice hasn't even broken and you reek of crime, so-called society is designed to be a remote-controlled switch off. Everyday an endless loop of meaningless sales messages and trying to scrape by on £100,000 a year.

What can you do to keep your sanity? Send the wife to her sisters, turn on the kid's playstation, flush the drugs down the toilet and regsiter a username to begin to wander into a new home; a fractured community of like-minded fools and chancers. A final chance for a middle-aged nobody to finally be themselves....

But what happens when this fractured community starts to bleed into reality, when the personal messages become personal threats and when loggin on is simply waking up?

The award-winning new muscial 'A Way to Wander' is brought to you from the award-winning producers of Sydney Opera's Houses' smash Hit, 'It Was Only A Triffling Matter' and Broadway's thrilling new drama 'A Burger in Trump Tower.'

It would be an eclectic mix, with summat for everyone.

MickyD gets a pop inspired highlight

While Casino's is darker and takes the audience down a different route

but to finish off Gonzo provides a tearjerker (not sure where he's "going back to"? Chippy near Preston? North Stand Upper? Wembley?). And who are the other WWers accompanying him.

Oh, you’re going to be in a lot of pain for that if she still lurks.
