I will be watching tomorrow on TV but I’ve had some eventful days at Mansfield including witness for my mate who got nicked on one visit…. Anyhow my mind wanders back to the late 70s with that fantast

  • It wasn't shite. It was just uneventful. We just about did enough.  That's division 3 football.

The positive spin given on the performance(s) I get. But no matter how much glitter you put on it, and given the advantage that we were given, it doesn't change the fact that it was very disappointing performance last night. Understanding the negative aspect is better than trying to brush it under the carpet.

Maybe it's just me, but I'll never be able to get my head around being even slightly disappointed with 3 points away from home. Nobody talks about our "performance" 20 years ago when Man City absolutely pummelled us for 90 minutes and hit the woodwork 5 or 6 times, then Gary Speed scored a match-winning penalty in the dying seconds of the game. It's the result that matters.

The points are what matters but we need to start playing better or we are going to start losing them so being disappointed at the performance is understandable

Wrexham were fucking shite for the whole of last season and just did enough to win enough games for promotion. Derby were the same.

We were the same under Parky the year he took us up.

Sorry, I won't ever understand that mindset.

If they were fucking shit what were the rest of the league ? You can be a bit crap and scrap 6 in play offs and get promoted but not top 2 . You could say they made there self’s hard to beat but definitely not fucking shit

Even more fucking shit.

On this date last season Wrexham had 40 points. I'd take being shit if we were winning every week.

As it is, we're 5th and not winning every week, so I think it's fair enough that people aren't getting carried away by beating 10-man Mansfield. We've been unconvincing (to say the least) away from home all season and that hasn't changed even if the result was better this time. It'll take a few more of these before you can say we've turned a corner.

Obviously, if there are things to work out it's better to find a way to win while we do so. And I also think there are areas SS will look to improve in January.

Nobody is getting carried away.

I think most folks are chuffed with a 0-1 away win and will be every time we achieve it. It is fair to say though that any win v 10 men, especially when it is for 80 minutes, is downgraded just a little. Not so much the delight in the immediate aftermath but more in terms of building longer term belief in the team.

We are all on the lookout for evidence of us toughening away from home and being able to grind out results. We got a decent point at Luton, we lasted the course at Huddersfield. There is some good stuff there in the mix. But before last night it was W1 D4 L3 away and that is the difference between 6th/5th and 1st/2nd.

Our ambition is top two. We need rock solid away form to add to very impressive home form. Lets hope we keep up the latter v Exeter on Saturday and then it is Wycombe away - another typically League 1 hurdle to clear.

Work in progress. Six league games unbeaten but still making up ground on those top two positions.

I can’t remember a win ever getting so much criticism! 😂

Over a long season you’re gonna get peaks and troughs with performances not every game going to be  aced. Winning while playing poorly is one of the key ingredients in promotion seasons.

Chalk & cheese, Cheese. You have to take each match on its own merits. The Man City game was a Rorke's Drift type of point. A game we weren't really expected to draw never mind win. At least City gave it a fucking good go. If City had limped through the 90 mins we wouldn't have held it up there as a massive result. If we had hit the woodwork that many times last night then the criticism wouldn't be as harsh. Imo the Criticism is justified. Cigars and  VCs all round for the City match. A serious look at ourselves is need after last night.

Shite to watch I meant. Like we were last night. Yet they still got results. Lime we did last night.

Wrexham were awful to watch in both our games versus them and all the other times I clapped eyes on them.

They just amassed enough points one way or the other. Same as Derby the season before.

It's a wank league and wank standard of football, it's about getting points.

They weren't shit.

Not attractive perhaps, but functional.

Nobody wins game after game whilst being shit.

Shit to watch. Grinding out results.

It's pretty clear what I meant ffs.

Well, not from that single sentence it wasn't.

You don't. You can just enjoy a win regardless of the 'performance'. I could understand it if a neutral went to a game to be 'entertained', as though they were going to watch a play or a film or a band or whatever, but that's not what football is - especially in League One. Maybe that's why I don't get it. I don't watch us to be entertained by the style of play. I go to the match because my dad brainwashed me to love Bolton Wanderers when I was a kid, and I've passed that on to mine. I go to scream my head off when we score, and even louder when we win. Like a caveman would have when his tribe has pummelled another one. We could play like absolute shite, but if we win my brain is happy for the entire week.

It was only entertaining because we won. If all those shots that hit the woodwork had gone in, it would've been miserable as fuck.

I stopped doing prem aways when they went over £30.  For a league one game at a stadium like that is a joke.

The 3pts is the main prize. That's all that matters. Everyone will agree on that. If Mansfield had equalised with the last kick would we criticise the defending for the goal, or would we analyse the entire 90 mins? Win, lose or draw if a performance is poor it should be called out. It was poor last night. No one can really say it was anything else.

How would you feel if we'd played sublime football for 90 minutes and lost 1-0 to a 95th minute penalty?
