May 26May 26 Think I’d probably find a place for Kieran Lee and for that brief spell at LB/LWB where he was great Declan John. Possibly Forino too Edited May 26May 26 by desperado

I had Lee in, but had second thoughts and put Dempsey in John nearly made it too - just think the others generally did more for the team both definitely on the bench along with Bodvarson
May 26May 26 If we are going off pure quality and including loanees like ACD and Maghoma then Marlon Fossey should come in to the frame as well.

The one thing I’d say in defence of Santos was that his sheer pace meant he was incredibly handy whenever Johnston or Toal made a mistake. Which in turn helped them look far less exposed than they have at times this season. But the one it’s panned out at Swansea would probably suggest it was a good call in the end.

Injured himself climbing the stairs to collect the trophy at Wembley and was never fully fit afterwards. He was a shambles physically by the time he left and hasn't got fit enough to play for Swansea.
May 26May 26 I'd probably put Dion Charles in there, went completely wrong at the end but I think he's deserving. Certainly if it was a 2 he'd be the other striker.

Then in the return game Santos absolutely bodied him when they brought him on. Whether I've got tinted glasses on or not, Santos was a complete physical specimen. His distribution was also immense, could ping a ball across the pitch like none of our current defense can. Edited May 26May 26 by Lostock Whites

He was also very good at slowing the game right down to walking pace, standing on the ball and directing traffic. He was good for us 2 years ago, though.

This was the infamous game santos got "destroyed", Yengi got a goal to be fair when the whole defence switched off but other than that Santos had thr better of him 9/10. Never mind the reverse game. Regarding slowing the game down, like I said, I would blame that less on Santos himself and would focus more on Evatt and his system. Santos was the deepest player in the squad and when we were found out, which happened often under Evatt, Santos would have the ball and not have anything on ie Wembley vs Oxford. I wouldn't blame Santos or his ability personally for that. I would have loved to have seen him play in a back 4 under Schuey playing a different system but things happened as they did and I don't think he's ever fully recovered from that Pneumonia he had. Even going off those 'stats' he won 66% not 90. He certainly had the ability to play higher but at League one level I would take Forino's no nonsense defending over Santos all day long.....I'm not blaming the lad but he was the headline act in poundshop Peps vanity project where artistic impression became more important than winning.

Yengi scored the winner and was unlucky not to score 3 or 4 more. Win most of the duels, but let your man have 4 or 5 good chances isn't a good performance.

To make a fair comparison we'd have to see Forino up against that Pompey player, few and far between in L1, struggling to think of a similar player. I think we forget how ridiculously good Santos's passing was for a L1 defender. And the number of times he caught up the forward with sheer speed, followed by strength. Forino is great (criminally underused by SS until we got injuries) but his pace is average, not a strength. Santos could give them 5 yards and still catch them. Both win every header they need to win, Forino is ahead on that because he can also provide a threat in the opposing box, with feet as well as head.
May 27May 27 Santos at his best was phenomenal and better than Forino at his best. Forino is more consistent and Santos is physically shot. I think the Oxford game really killed off people's impressions of him
