Luis Fernandez claims Qatari club Al-Rayyan are close to signing Bolton Wanderers captain Jay-Jay-Okocha.

Rumours have been rife for the past month that Fernandez is looking to work with Okocha again, having been the Nigerian's coach at Paris Saint Germain.

In July, Bolton strongly denied suggestions they would consider selling the playmaker, while Okocha stated he was happy to stay at The Reebok Stadium.

But Fernandez is refusing to give up on his pursuit of the 32-year-old and revealed on Sunday that the signing of Okocha is imminent.

Speaking on French television programme Telefoot, Fernandez announced that Al-Rayyan are close to reaching a deal for Okocha.

Reports claim that Bolton have accepted a ???4 million (??2.5 million) offer for their skipper, with Okocha set to agree a two-year contract.

Okocha was left on the substitutes' bench for Bolton's opening game of the season against Aston Villa at the weekend while the impending capture of Hidetoshi Nakata could restrict the African's playing time further.

He has spent three years with The Trotters but, if Fernandez's claims prove correct, will head for the Middle East and a bumper pay packet.

sellin our best players is normally a no-no (and he IS one of our best players no matter what some fans think) but 2.5m for a 32yr old aint bad business. especially with nakata coming in soon...

Depend what you class as "best". He is a player that we once needed to be able to attract a better class of player. This is no longer the case although he is still one of the better known players.

As he has done nothing in well over a season then at ??2.5 million i would snap their hand off.

nowadays god knows what a player is worth, but i'd be dissapointed to let him go for less than 3 million - that might be my sentimental side rather than business mind talking.

also, i dont think sam will be happy losing stelios and okocha at this early stage of the season, when he said over the weekend that he still wants 5 more players to make the squad large enough to last the premiership/uefa season!!

captain med what the fcuk are you on, granted he had an injury hit season, but are squad is worse than thread bare, there is no doubt okocha is still our top player amd playmaker, sometimes i have to hang my head in despair at bolton fans comments.

I don't think he will be going anywhere until we bring in a player to replace him.

??2.5M for a 32yr old isn't a bad piece of business, it's also worth remembering that we will lose him for around a month of the season anyway due to the African Cup of Nations. If he did go, that would probably free up enough wages money to sign two other decent players.

A tough one, we'll just have to see what happens and trust Allerdyce on this one.

??2.5 million good deal

Agreed, he's no longer a mandatory member of the team and his captaining skills are utter sh??te

Plus, he's not sent Smiffs's daughter a signed photo so he deserves to get deported to a third world country :D

Yeah and how many times has he said hes retiring from international duty and then still goes to play - bet he plays

I think Speed should stay as captain for the season - free up Jay Jay from any responsibilities. Get him pushed up the field and tell him to play the only way he knows without worrying about tracking back! He could still devastate a few defences in this league.

Thing with both Stelios & Jay Jay is that who do we replace them with? Ok we can go out and get players but are they really going to be better or even comparabile at this late stage? Who would people like us to go out and sign - its hard thinking of replacements let alone getting them to actually sign!!

I think people are still comparing Jay Jay with the player he was at the end of first season at the Reebok and expect him to pulling off flicks and tricks all the time - he has changed so much as a player and as a team we have too - we are now challanging the top half rather than fighting off relegation!

Ok he may not be what he used too be, but he never used to track back 70 yards picking up the opp attacking midfielder.

??1m for Stelios & ??2.5m for Jay Jay = dont make me laugh! What or who are we going to bring in for that. You can have loads of money but it doesnt mean you are going to bring in the players - ask Wigan! What they would give to have someone like Jay Jay selling thier club!

okochas done nowt my big fat arse

only saturday he put in two crosses, that any attcker worthy of a prem shirt should have buried

one bypassed at least one of ours near post, and nolan should still have scored at the back post

the other picked out davies unmarked (6 yards out?) - the keeper never needed to move........ enough said

some of the comments regarding our players are a joke, we are in danger of becoming big time charlie fans, lets get real we are a small premier club with little money a small fan base punching well above our weight thanks to Sam allardyce who is working miracles, when he leaves the club and we loose World class players like Okocha/Stelios/Jahidi all who have been slagged of on this board and the premiership is a distant fading memory, you will do well to remember the last few years when bolton mixed it with the best teams in england and europe. ](*,)

Absolutely spot on MK. If anybody had watched some of the players that I (and Biff - and a few others) had then they would know what shit really was.

I've not slagged a player off yet but one thing you've got to remember is the players of years gone by were not on a weekly wage greater than most of us could earn in a year. Bolton fans see their player's wages relative to their own. If there was no production done in a producing job then you could hardly expect to pick up a full wage plus bonuses. As it currently stands players on obcene amounts of dosh should be more accountable for the end product!

But the club was not generating the kind of money to be able to pay the players back then what they are getting now, so regardless of whether they are on ??4k or ??40k we need to be realistic of our aspirations! Okay Jay Jay may be on a lot of money but what do people honestly want from him? A goal a game and assist with 20 mins of show boating thrown in? If he was on ??4k a week would people say his performances are acceptable?

Jay Jay is probably the best midfielder I have ever seen at this club (since 1984) and even with a dip in form (I still think its not a dip more like a change in style) he would still be in the top 10 on a bad day!

They came sixth.

If you look at our wage budget, we probably are not top ten.

So they over-achieved.

season before last, im sure i read we were 1 of only 2 or 3 clubs who's wage bill was actually less than total gate receipts for the season.

obviously they must of gone up by now, but its common misconception that we pay top wages, we dont, we pay bugger all...

much of the players wages are made up of performance bonus's as far as i know.

For F??cks Sake!

Bolton fans are the most fickle in the world: worse even than Man City.

An opening day draw at a place we've not won in over 50 years, where we usually lose and concede at least one penalty and have a man sent off. Now, it's lets sell JJ and Stelios. Also Jaidi, Hunt , Gardner, Nolan and Jussi were sh??t. The other 6 must have been ragging brilliant then!

Get behind the lads and stop whining.

PS I know this could / should have gone on the Stelios thread too, but the same sentiments apply to this thread!
