The Good...

A couple that we met at The Reebok and swapped mobile numbers with kept to their word and met us on thursday afternoon. They are the most friendliest knowledgable football fans you could ever wish to meet, they even drove us in their van to their pubs before and after the match

They are Ultras but we were also drinking with Yankees and MTP. They all welcomed us and were very friendly with us. They bought us their local rocket fuel drink (Pastiche I think they call it) ;dd

Also did you notice at the end of the match the fans to our right (The Yankees) gave us a standing ovation, clapping and respecting that so many of our fans turned up.

 

The Bad...

A friend of mine that I didn't travel with was knocked to the floor right outside the ground by some of their boys just after he got out of the taxi. One of them stamped on his head and another on his arm while he was down [-X

An ambulance took him to the hospital straight away.

It happened about 1 1/2 hours before kick off just outside our end. He has 3 stitches in his nose, his ear is ripped and his arm is broke.

They kept him in hospital on thurs night and released to come home on friday as planned.

The Bad...

Similar incident happened but the stamping & kicking of my mates head was done by 'Bolton' fans!! Stitches required. Too much ale & they didn't give a sh*t what 'badge' we wore. I wish it was French fans who had kicked off, you could understand it then - but I cant get my head round this incident.

 

Later on our way to the ground we saw a few scirmishes. We got split from our lads just before that and ended up on the Metro, their side of the ground. We could have got a good slap (easy target) but to be fair no one approached us.

 

Good day ruined by our so called 'fellow fans'.

I thought the Marseille fans were superb. Very vocal and passionate. I doubt i`d miss any Bolton game if our fans were like that. However in our defence they didn`t have stewards chucking them out every time they so much as farted out of turn as what happens at the Reebok.

Sorry Zozzy to report ,this but Kingy is still in hospital with a broken arm and it may need operating on,the frog spat in his face as he got out of taxi he turned around to see what was going on and he got set upon,only lasted a few seconds but that was enough.

A couple of hours before the game me and my mates went to one of the local bars about 10 minutes walk from the ground. We were treated really well by some of the locals who we got chatting to (well in a poor english / poor french type way) - they treated us to some shots of what tasted like Pernod or Ouzo or something - they tried to teach us some songs, and us them. Very pleasant indeed - I've decided that I like them

 

 

Brixton is right though, if we had that kind of support at home, you would never miss a game, it would be electric..................anybody fancy starting up some Ultras at The Reebok?

 

Marseille had:

Virage Nord: Yankees, Fanatics, Dodgers and MTP

Virage Sud: Commando Ultras, Kaotic and South Winners

 

We could just have the "ESL Werthers" the "Scoreboard Chavs" and the mighty "WSL Hush Boys" - The "ESL" and the "WSL" crews will always provoke each other with silence, whilst the Scoreboard Chavs can rouse us with their fantastic drumming and high pitched singing.

 

The Stewards will of course encourage the silent provocation (between "ESL" and "WSL"), by demanding that everybody be quiet at whilst also reminding us we should be sat down at all times, so that everybody can enjoy the game.

some of are guys had come for a fight and they were gonna cause trouble what ever way they could. on the way back down ended up walking with a very dodgy group of lads one lad threw a bottle at a car and smashed a windscreen then a group of 5 lads attacked a car full of fans for no reason trying to open there doors and put there fist thru the windows. was glad to see they got away safly. #-o

I have to admit to finding the localls really friendly, totally turning my opinion of the frogs on its head.

 

One of the lads going to ping a gobby frog in a car outside the ground, only to find out he was a bit quicker than him and he ended up punching the window, nearly breaking his hand #-o He was the one who got Davies top after the match,so his night wasn't all bad

Some little French shits jumping out of a car on the Ave de Prado tooling themselves up with anything they could get hold of [-X

The ones we bumped in to were friendly enough. Even bumped in to Bernard Mendys cousin, or so he says. The Anthill Mob even went on a tour of the dodgy area of town. Loads of Arabs and Africans looking at us honkys looking for a beer. We visited 5 or 6 bars and got treated well. Wouldn???t like to do that tour at night tho.

 

If some foreign invaders had took over our town centre like we did to them I think we wouldn???t have been as welcoming as they were to us. The city does seem to be proud of their team. A lot of bars and shops had the Marseille badge somewhere on the premises.

 

On the whole they weren???t bad.

Very passionate fans. Like you say, everywhere you went the locals would shout "OM". Very proud of their team.

any trouble i saw was caused by our so called fans thats not to say they did not have there own dickheads but the difference was they were not beating there own fans up anyone from bwfc who attacked a bwfc fan is a shithouse in my book beer or no beer if we had fought one another in the war we would be all germans now and so would the french all singing 10 english bombers what a thought.

Biggest gary nevilles on the day were Bolton fans.

Big respect to the Marseille lot.

It was a pleasure to witness such fantastic support, I really hope we can get back to terraced areas. What a laugh it would be if the East stand took the piss out of the West stand and vice versa . it`ll never happen though.

I lost everyone and had to catch the tube (thanks to the bolton fan who paid for my train tckt) there was a good bit of banter going on but no trouble what so ever.

one of our first bars on our tour of north and west africa could have dogshit on the floor and you wouldn't have seen it fer sawdust and dog ends

 

wouldn't have missed that 3 hour tour for the world, but though we were told to come back up to watch barca chelsea, we passed

Some Corscican friends of mine in Paris drink a lot of that, it has an aniseed taste to it. They always add water to it which gives it a cloudy appearance.

Everyone accounted for on both journeys, very unusual!

 

 

Pastis is superb, very similar to Pernod, Ricard, Ouzo and Bulgarian Mastika.

Seconded, with a couple of Leythers and an ageing rock star in the party it would have been hard work on the train.

I was attacked mid afternoon in the area around the cathedral and then we were chased through the streets untl we found an area where people were about.

 

Also saw some trouble outside the ground after the game.

As usual, english supports are very cool.

Its always nice to meet an english club cos you are fair play and you did not fear to have a drink (i should better say lots of drink)..

Moreover, many of you drank pastis "Marseille alcohol": very cool...

 

What is good with english supports is that you come at 5000 while you have only 3000 seats: that shows that you like your team like we like our one's...

 

i hope you enjoy the atmosphere in Velodrome...

It was very good atmosphere and we found bolton fans very fair play and you had our respect. We applaused you, its the minimum we could do...

Got talking to some good lads in an open bar on the main drag back to the city centre, taught em a few good "Walkden White" songs, which i got paid back in a glass of pernod or two, then went in a bar what was half Bolton, half French, no trouble, even managed to get a bit of a smooch with a local, then it all went pearshaped, couldnt find my hotel, ended up sleeping in a linen room in a differant hotel, went back to the station in the morning to meet my mates, who had the foresight to bring my bag which contained my passport. "EUROPE I AM MISSING YOU ALREADY"

Marseille supporters are very passionate and in general are good people to be with. They love their football.
