BLACKBURN ROVERS' improbable victory against champions Chelsea on Tuesday evening means that Bolton Wanderers will now have to enter the InterToto Cup if they are to enjoy a repeat of this season's UEFA Cup run.

 

Mark Hughes' men clinched sixth place with the three points they picked up at Ewood Park and in doing so sealed the final automatic UEFA Cup place.

 

Qualification for the InterToto Cup is solely in Wanderers hands. If they pick up victories against Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening and repeat the result against Birmingham on Sunday they will secure seventh place, which will see them finish above fellow InterToto hopefuls Newcastle United.

 

The Magpies are currently three points ahead of Wanderers with one game to play - a home fixture against Chelsea - on Sunday.

This isn't exactly rocket science - it goes to the highest place team outside the top six. If we win our next 2 games as it says then we will finish 7th.

 

I don't know if this as been mentioned before , but on the TV on the Boro game , the commentator said that the only way that Boro would be in the UFA Cup next year was if they won the Cup and would take the place of the sixth placed team , were the getting confused with the Champs league .

Because if Boro did win, that would mean they take Blackburn's place and Blackburn would take the intertoto place
