Basically...

Bolton could lose Mexican striker Borgetti.

Racing Santander are ready to take him for the coming season.

New Spanish coach Miguel Angel hopes to convince him to make the move.

Or summat.

I wouldn't put much faith in a rumour on an Italian website about a Mexican striker leaving an English club to go to a Spanish team. It's all a bit double Dutch.

Bolton Wanderers striker Jared Borgetti is being linked with a move to Spain with Racing Santander.

The Mexican international has yet to show the qualities in The Premiership that made him one of the most potent goalscorers in world football.

Borgetti often found himself behind Kevin Davies, El Hadji Diouf and Ricardo Vaz Te in the pecking order last season and has been linked with a move away from The Reebok Stadium on more than one occasion.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is thought to be keen to keep 'The Desert Fox' in Lancashire but reports in Spain suggest Santander are hoping to open negotiations with The Trotters for the 32-year-old.

The Estadio El Sardinero club are looking for attacking reinforcements during the summer and their new coach Miguel Angel Portugal is targeting Borgetti to lead the line next season.

The Spanish outfit have strong links with Borgetti's homeland and the capture of Mexico's record goalscorer would be seen as an excellent piece of business both on and off the field.

I???d keep Borgetti if I thought Allardyce would use him.

But he clearly has something against strikers who score goals, better to sell him and get his salary off the wage bill.

Posted

For whatever reason Sam doesn't think Borgetti is the answer to our problems. He was never really given a run in the team even when Diouf was injured and Davo struggling for goals. Assuming Sam gets a new striker in before the season starts and Dioufy is back fit then Borgetti might be struggling to even get on the bench.

I thought he played well against the Argies in the World Cup (apart from when he was doing Crespo's job for him), but he obviously isn't going to be the kind of player who'll graft up and down the wings. He needs someone to play next to him and better service than he gets here.

What I can't understand is that all that was obvious before we signed him.

Suppose for ??1m Sam thought it was worth a gamble on him, see if he hit it off over here.

I think he clearly has a goal knack, but beyond that is actually very average. Certainly unable to play up front alone.

Posted

He can be as average as he likes as long as he knows where the net is.

Robbie Fowler and Andy Cole have both been prolific goalscorers despite not being great players.

Even if Borgetti did leave how much would we ask for him, hardly played last season and im guessing that Big Sam wouldn't let him leave for anything less than we paid for him.

I can't see there's any way we're going to get our money back on him.

If he does end up leaving it'll be for the classic "undisclosed fee".

I'm absolutely gutted for the lad.

Think he's a class act, and it would be a massive waste to lose a striker with such instinct. In the future we might be thinking to ourselves that we had a born goalscorer once, and we never gave him enough of a chance.

I might be going over the top like, but people being critical of his Premiership performances, via phone-ins on GMR for example are harsh. I don't think he's been that bad in the Prem considering.

And the way he finished against Besiktas and Watford, despite facing away from the goal at the time, or having the ball behind him coming at pace. Amazing. =D>

Best out and out finisher at the club.

Play to his strengths ie 4-4-f??cking 2 and he's your 15-20 goals a season man.

I'll never forget his goal in Istanbul. Absolute top drawer.

The guys a quality player and a real nice guy.

I know him and you would have thought that after being left on the bench nearly all last season and not being given a chance he would be moaning and wanting out.

He doesn't he says that he is Boltons #1 fan because he sits and watches every game and he wants to prove how good he is to the premiership.

He should be given a decent run in the side in a position and a formation that he is comfortable in, i.e 1 of 2 strikers in a 4-4-2, and then Sam can decide whether he is good enough or not!

If he played for munich he would score 25 a season but with sams insistance on playing 1 up front he is no good to us.Him and diouf up front playing together would be my choice :-k

Allardyce says today that the Borg could play a major role next season, BUT he will sell him if the right offer comes in. Sort of a mixed message there, I think! :-k

from www.bwfc.co.uk

SAM ALLARDYCE believes Jared Borgetti can play a major part for Wanderers this coming season if the Mexican takes on board what he learned from his debut season in the Barclays Premiership - but the Wanderers boss is also willing to listen to offers for the World Cup striker.

Although Borgetti wasn't a regular in Allardyce's first-team plans last season, he still managed to chip in with seven crucial goals, which gave the Wanderers supporters a brief glimpse of his finishing talents.

However, Allardyce has called on the striker to improve his work-rate, particularly outside the box, if he is to force his way back into regular first-team contention, but the Club will consider selling the player they bought from Mexican outfit Pachuca if the offer is beneficial to both parties.

The Wanderers boss said: "We have had a number of enquires from other clubs for the services of Jared Borgetti.Even though I haven't spoken to Jared since the end of last season, I suspect that we might let him go if the deal is right for us and for him.

"Jared's had a steep learning curve and found the physicality of the Barclays Premiership hard going. If does end up staying, then I hope he can learn from his experiences in his opening season in England.

"With the right application, he can play a more major part for us. While we want to see the goals he can score, he has to improve his workrate in other areas of his game with a major emphasis on work he does outside the penalty area."

Posted

I wouldn't mind him staying, but some of you are talking like he'll finish top scorer in the PL if he started every game :::::::lol:::::::

He'll do a job as a squad player, but due to his age I can't see him changing the way he plays too much & that doesn't help us really. He scored 7 last season, and I was impressed, but lets not go over the top - he's no Thierry Henry.

Brilliant. Best thing to do with an out-and-out goalscorer is make him run his nads off in midfield.

Romario would have been dog-shit if he'd played for us. ](*,)

I'm not saying you're wrong, but don't assume that Allardyce is talking about Davies-esque closing down defenders etc. maybe, just maybe, he's talking about runs whilst we have the ball - dropping short, running along the line; basically making yourself available for the ball and stretching the opposition defence.

It's a bit like when Ronaldo's physique was questioned. He replied that his job was to score goals, not chase around in midfield.

Point taken.

However, I hardly think Borgetti has scored all his goals by standing on the penalty spot and waiting for the ball to bounce off him.

He could run around all day, but he'll still need someone to pass to him.

You;re right in that most of the goals I've seen have been quality runs inside the box. Allardyce hasn't questionned that from what i've seen.

However, to get the ball in the opposition third to enable the crosses to come in, we need quality link play and that's what his game misses IMO.

As for needing someone to pass the ball to him, that's another kettle of fish.

Surely, the question of whether we sell Borg or not depends as much on bringing in a new striker as it does on the offer for him.

I would say the arrival of a Mido (or similar) would be the right deal to let Borg go, not a ??1M offer. 7 goals from Borg in the premiership could be the difference between mid table and European football next year.

Did anyone ever tell Gary Lineker to improve his workrate outside the penalty area?

Did anyone ever tell Ian Wright to improve his workrate outside the penalty area?

Did anyone ever tell Alan Shearer to improve his workrate outside the penalty area?

Did anyone ever tell RV Nisterooy to improve his workrate outside the penalty area?

Did anyone ever tell Nat Lofthouse to improve his workrate outside the penalty area?

Did anyone ever tell Romario to improve his workrate outside the penalty area?

Did anyone ever tell Pele to improve his workrate outside the penalty area?

Did anyone ever tell JF Hasselbaink to improve his workrate outside the penalty area?

DID THEY FOOK!

Allardyce is trying to kill football. If he was managing kids he???d be the one telling your son he was rubbish for scoring a double hat-trick because goals don???t win matches.
